Prince Edwards Park, Lalomalava
Prince Edward Park is a sportsground in Lalomalava, Salelologa, on the island of Savai'i in Samoa. The ground is used for rugby, as well as Samoa AFL, Cricket, and Soccer. It is the home ground of the Savaii Samoa Rugby Union Team. The park consists of two rugby grounds, with grandstand seating for approximately one hundred people. The park is also the location of the Oceania Football Confederation's regional technical centre. History The Park is named after Prince Edward of York, who in the early 1900s visited Savai'i and opened this park; which at the time was just a field. It was formally opened by Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex on 13 October 1992. In 2021, the UK High Commission in Samoa installed a monument at the park commemorating the event. There is no Seating Stands in the Park. However, there is a complimentary shading area provided by whoever hosts the matches played at this Park. Lalomalava is a village at the southeast end of Savai'i island in Samoa. The village is part of the electoral constituency (''Faipule District'') Fa'asaleleaga I which is within the larger political district (Itumalo) of Fa'asaleleaga. The population is 307 (2016 Census). Salelologa
Salelologa is a village district at the east end of Savai'i island in Samoa. It is the main entry point into the island with the only ferry terminal on Savai'i. It also serves as the main township for shopping and public amenities with a market selling fresh produce and arts and crafts. Salelologa is made up of smaller sub-villages ''pito nu'u'' and falls within the electoral district of Fa'asaleleaga. Township The township consists of one main shopping street. Fresh fish, locally grown produce and arts and crafts are sold at the Salelologa Market (''makeki'') which was recently moved to a new site by the wharf in 2009. The market is open six days a week, Monday to Saturday. Most shops and markets in Samoa close on Sundays with a few small outlets opening in the late afternoon. Savaii Samoa
Savaii Samoa is a former Samoa rugby union representative team that played in the Pacific Rugby Cup from 2006 to 2010. The other Samoan team in the Cup was Upolu Samoa. Savaii Samoa and Upolu Samoa were selected from tournaments that took place in Samoa. Most of the players selected in these two teams were local players. The Savaii Samoa team beat Air Pacific Fiji Warriors 10-5 at Marist Ground in Apia, Samoa to win the inaugural Pacific Rugby Cup in 2006, but did not feature in the finals for the remaining four seasons. The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) is one of the six continental confederations of international association football. Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and Forfar, (Edward Antony Richard Louis; born 10 March 1964) is a member of the British royal family. He is the youngest child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and the youngest sibling of King Charles III. Edward is 13th in line of succession to the British throne. A beach fale is a simple thatched hut in the architecture of Samoa. Beach fales are also common in other parts of Polynesia. Pacific Rugby Cup
The World Rugby Pacific Challenge, formerly the IRB Pacific Rugby Cup, is an annual rugby union football tournament held in Oceania since 2006. It is contested by national 'A' teams (formed from the best locally based players, with most not already on their nations' senior rugby team) from the Asia-Pacific region. The tournament is run by World Rugby (previously IRB) through Oceania Rugby. The original IRB Pacific Rugby Cup featured two teams from each of the three Pacific Island countries of Fiji, Samoa and Tonga. Tau'uta Reds
Tau'uta Reds is a former Tongan rugby union team that played in the Pacific Rugby Cup from 2006 to 2010. The other Tongan team in the Cup was Tautahi Gold. The team's name is from the Tau’uta who were the Tongan land warriors that fought in the war which united Tonga as one kingdom. Red represents the colour of blood and the sacrifice which the saviour made on the cross for all mankind.
