Primera División Peruana 2002
The 2002 Torneo Descentralizado was the 86th season of the top category of Peruvian football (soccer). It was played by 12 teams. The national champion was Sporting Cristal. Competition modus The national championship was divided into two and half-year tournaments, the Torneo Apertura and the Torneo Clausura. Each was played on a home-and-away round-robin basis. The winners of each would play for the national title in a playoff, but a team had to finish in the top 4 in both tournaments to earn the right to play the final. If the same club had won both tournaments, it would have won the national championship automatically. Following-season Copa Libertadores berths went to each half-year tournament winner, and the best-placed team in the aggregate table. The two bottom teams on the aggregate table were relegated, but a playoff had to be played between the 10th- and 11th-placed teams since both obtained the same number of points (goal difference did not count as a tie-breaker). ... 2001 Copa Perú
The 2001 Copa Perú season (), the promotion tournament of Peruvian football. The tournament has 5 stages. The first four stages are played as mini-league round-robin tournaments, except for third stage in region IV, which is played as a knockout stage. The final stage features two knockout rounds and a final four-team group stage to determine the two promoted teams. This year 26 teams qualified for the Etapa Regional (Regional Stage): these are the 26 champions from each department (including 2 from Lima (the capital) - Perú is politically divided in 24 Departments and 1 Constitutional Province). All these teams are divided into 8 groups by geographical proximity; then each winner qualifies for the Etapa Nacional (National Stage). Estadio Alejandro Villanueva
The Estadio Alejandro Villanueva, popularly known as Matute, is a football stadium located in the Matute neighborhood of the La Victoria district in Lima, Peru. The venue is owned by Club Alianza Lima, and it is here that the club plays at home in the Peruvian Primera División, and in international tournaments such as the Copa Libertadores or the Copa Sudamericana. The Estadio Campeones del 36 is a multi-use stadium in Sullana, Peru. It is used by the football team Alianza Atlético. The stadium holds 12,000 people and was built in 2000. It is a small stadium which was expanded. The venue name, ''Champions of 1936'', is misleading. No Peruvian League was actually played in 1936, as the national team was preparing itself to compete in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Germany. Alianza Atlético did, however, win a Campeonato Nacional de Fútbol (representing their home region, Piura) governed by the Peruvian Football Federation, and the name stuck despite not being recognized officially as national champions thereafter. Deportivo Wanka is a Peruvian football club, based in the city of Huancayo in the Peruvian Andes. It was founded in 1969 and is named after the Wankas people who formerly inhabited the area and after whom the city of Huancayo is named.
