The President of the United Republic of Tanzania () is the head of state and head of government of Tanzania. Samia Suluhu Hassan, sworn in on 19 March 2021, is the first female president of the United Republic of Tanzania. She succeeded John Magufuli following his death on 17 March 2021. Presidential term The president serves a term of five years. As of 2021, there is a two-term limit for the president in the Constitution of Tanzania. The first president for whom the term limits applied was Mwinyi in 1995. Executive powers The president of Tanzania is the commander-in-chief of the Tanzania People's Defence Force, Armed Forces and is "accountable to a legislature composed of elected members and representative of the people." Coat Of Arms Of Tanzania
The coat of arms of Tanzania comprises a warrior's shield which bears a golden portion on the upper part followed underneath by the flag of Tanzania. The golden portion represents minerals in the United Republic; the red portion underneath the flag symbolises the rich fertile soil of Africa; and the wavy bands represent the land, sea, lakes and coastal lines of the United Republic. In the golden part of the flag, there appears a burning torch signifying freedom (Uhuru Torch, Uhuru), enlightenment and knowledge; a spear signifying defence of freedom and crossed axe and hoe being tools that the people of Tanzania use in developing the country. The shield stands upon the representation of Mount Kilimanjaro. John Magufuli
John Pombe Joseph Magufuli (29 October 1959 – 17 March 2021) was a Tanzanian politician who served as the fifth president of Tanzania, serving from 2015 until his death in 2021. He served as Minister of Works, Transport and Communications from 2000 to 2005 and 2010 to 2015 and was chairman of the Southern African Development Community from 2019 to 2020. First elected as a Member of Parliament in 1995, he served in the Cabinet of Tanzania as Deputy Minister of Works from 1995 to 2000, Minister of Works from 2000 to 2005, Minister of Lands and Human Settlement from 2006 to 2008, Minister of Livestock and Fisheries from 2008 to 2010, and as Minister of Works for a second time from 2010 to 2015. Chama cha Ukombozi wa Umma (CHAUMMA) is a political party in Tanzania. Hashim Spunda Rungwe, chairman of CHAUMMA since 2014, was the first politician in the party's history to run for president when he stood in the 2015 Tanzanian general election. Many CHAUMMA members were previously aligned with NCCR-Mageuzi, including Rungwe, who unsuccessfully contested for president as the NCCR-Mageuzi candidate in the 2010 Tanzanian general election. The Tanzania Democratic Alliance (TADEA) is a political party in Tanzania. The party was registered on 28 August 1992 formerly known as Tanzania Democratic Alliance and currently as African Democratic Alliance Party. Civic United Front
The Civic United Front (CUF; , ) is a liberal party in Tanzania. Although nationally based, most of the CUF's support comes from the Zanzibar islands of Unguja and Pemba. The party is a member of Liberal International. History The Civic United Front was formed on 28 May 1992 through a merger of two formerly existing movements: KAMAHURU, a pressure group for democratization in Zanzibar, and the Civic Movement, a human rights organization based on the mainland. Samia Suluhu Hassan ( ; born 27 January 1960) is a Tanzanian politician who serves as the sixth and current President of Tanzania, president of Tanzania since 19 March 2021.
