Presentation Secondary School, Clonmel is a secondary school established by the Presentation Sisters for the education of girls in Clonmel, County Tipperary in Ireland. History The foundation of the schools at their present site to the west of the town was laid in 1865 and the buildings completed the following year. These have since been replaced by modern structures. The site includes the accommodation building of a former boarding school built in 1937, "with the main object of fostering vocations". In 2007, the school began operating under the trusteeship of CEIST Catholic Education an Irish Schools Trust. The Presentation Sisters, officially the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, are a religious institute of Roman Catholic women founded in Cork, Ireland, by the Venerable Honora "Nano" Nagle in 1775. The Sisters of the congregation use the postnominal initials P.B.V.M. The Presentation Sisters' mission is to help the poor and needy around the world. Clonmel
Clonmel () is the county town and largest settlement of County Tipperary, Ireland. The town is noted in Irish history for its resistance to the Cromwellian army which sacked the towns of Drogheda and Wexford. With the exception of the townland of Suir Island, most of the borough is situated in the civil parish of "St Mary's" which is part of the ancient barony of Iffa and Offa East. Population The 2016 Census used a new boundary created by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) to define the town of Clonmel and Environs resulting in a population figure of 17,140. This new boundary omitted part of the Clonmel Borough Boundary which the CSO had defined as Legal Town for the 2011 census 11.55 km/sq. Serena Corr is a chair in Functional Materials and Professor in Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Sheffield. She works on next-generation battery materials and advanced characterisation techniques for nanomaterials. Early life and education Corr grew up in Clonmel and attended Presentation Secondary School. She studied chemistry at Trinity College Dublin. She completed her doctoral work on magnetic structured materials (nanoparticles and quantum dots for biomedical applications) with Yurii Gun'ko. She focussed on nanomaterials that could be used for biomedical applications. Corr worked on several outreach programs during her PhD.
