Prairieville, Texas
Prairieville is an unincorporated rural small village in Kaufman County, Texas, United States. There is a grocery store at Prairieville, a church, and several homes. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 50 in 2000. It is located within the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. History A Norwegian colony in Texas led by Johan Reinert Reiersen moved from Henderson County to the Four Mile Prairie in Kaufman and Van Zandt counties in 1848. It resulted in the establishment of Prairieville after they built homes and farms on the land. In the community's first years an epidemic swept through the area in the 1850s, and the survivors moved to Bosque County. The Prairieville community itself survived, which had a population of 206 by 1900 before it plunged to 50 in 1924. Bosque County ( ) is a county located on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, the population was 18,235. Its county seat is Meridian, while Clifton is the largest city and the cultural/financial center of the county. The county is named for the Bosque River, which runs through the center of the county north to south. The Brazos River makes up the eastern border along with the Lake Whitney reservoir it feeds. Kaufman is a city in and the county seat of Kaufman County, Texas, United States. Its population was 6,797 at the 2020 census. History Kaufman was founded as "Kings Fort", named after Dr. William P. King, who established the fort in 1840 after purchasing of land where the city is now located. The community was renamed "Kingsboro" after five years of growth. In 1852, Kingsboro was renamed "Kaufman" after the newly formed Kaufman County, which in turn was named after David S. Kaufman. Mabank ( ) is a town in Henderson, Van Zandt and Kaufman counties in the U.S. state of Texas. Its population was 3,035 at the 2010 census, up from 2,151 at the 2000 census.
