Posey Field is an unincorporated community located in Winston County, Alabama, United States. The community was founded c. 1950 and has a population of 74. Posey Field Airport The Posey Field Airport is located in the community. The airport was named after a former Winston County politician. Religion Two churches are located within the Posey Mills community, Posey Mills Baptist Church and Sunny Home Baptist Church. Services The Posey Field community is located within Winston County, therefore county garbage pickup is provided. The community is served by the Haleyville Fire Department as well as the Pebble Volunteer Fire Department. Some of the community is also in Franklin County, including Posey Mill Baptist Church and adjoining cemetery. Winston County is a county of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 23,540. Its county seat is Double Springs. Posey Field
Posey Field is a city-owned public-use airport located three nautical miles (4 mi, 6 km) northeast of the central business district of Haleyville, a city in Winston County, Alabama, United States. This airport is included in the FAA's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 and 2009–2013, both of which categorized it as a ''general aviation'' facility. Facilities and aircraft Posey Field covers an area of 120 acres (49 ha) at an elevation of 930 feet (283 m) above mean sea level. It has one runway designated 18/36 with an asphalt surface measuring 5,008 by 100 feet (1,526 x 30 m). For the 12-month period ending April 22, 2010, the airport had 10,185 general aviation aircraft operations, an average of 27 per day. At that time there were 14 aircraft based at this airport: 79% single-engine, 7% multi-engine, 7% jet and 7% ultralight. Pat Buttram
Maxwell Emmett "Pat" Buttram (June 19, 1915 – January 8, 1994) was an American character actor. Buttram was known for playing the sidekick of Gene Autry and for playing the character of Mr. Haney in the television series ''Green Acres''. He had a distinctive voice that, in his own words, "never quite made it through puberty." Early life Buttram was born on June 19, 1915, in Addison, Alabama, to Wilson McDaniel Buttram, a Methodist minister, and his wife Mary Emmett Maxwell. He had an older brother, Augustus McDaniel Buttram, and five other elder siblings. When "Pat" Buttram was a year old, his father was transferred to Nauvoo, Alabama. Buttram graduated from Mortimer Jordan High School, then located in Morris, Alabama, then entered Birmingham–Southern College to study for the Methodist ministry. Pp. 201-202. Life The son of "a sharecropper who was a shape-note singing-school teacher," Hess was born in Mt. Pisgah, near Athens, in Limestone County, Alabama. His parents were Stovall and Lydia Hess. He was the youngest of 12 children. Hess's entry on the Encyclopedia of Alabama's website says of his name: "His parents did not officially name him, so the attending physician entered his name as 'Man Child' Hess in official documents." When he registered with the draft board in Lincoln, Nebraska, he gave his name as "William Jesse Hess." In 1997, when Hess was preparing to get a passport to travel overseas, he discovered that his birth certificate actually read Manchild Hess.
