Portowiec Gdańsk is a sports club based in Gdańsk, Poland, founded in 1957. Club names *1957 – Klub Sportowy Portowiec Gdańsk *1969 – MRKS Gdańsk (Maritime Workers' Sports Club Gdańsk), after a merger with Motława Gdańsk *2009 – reactivation of the club under the name Klub Sportowy Portowiec Gdańsk Football The sports club enjoyed their greatest success in the 1970s and 1980s when the team spent seven seasons in the third tier. After troubles off the field, the club was dissolved in 2001, before being reformed in 2009. Since being reformed and winning promotion in 2010, Portowiec have faced financial issues to run the club. Klasa A represents the seventh level of the Polish football league system, Polish football hierarchy. Teams promoted from Klasa A move up to the liga okręgowa, whilst relegated teams descend to the Klasa B leagues. The liga okręgowa (in some voivodeship named klasa okręgowa, English: regional league) is one of the tiers of the Polish football league system. The league is split into 60 groups, and is present in every voivodeship. Teams promoted from liga okręgowa move up to the IV liga, whilst relegated teams descend to the Klasa A leagues. In 12 out of 16 voivodeship, liga okręgowa stands as the sixth tier of league competition. The "Gdańsk Derby" () is the name given to describe football matches between teams in Gdańsk, Poland. While this term can be used for any team in Gdańsk historically this term has been used for games involving Gedania 1922 Gdańsk, Gedania Gdańsk, Lechia Gdańsk and SKS Stoczniowiec Gdańsk, Stoczniowiec Gdańsk, historically the three biggest teams in the city of Gdańsk. Lechia Gdańsk () is a Polish football (soccer), football club based in Gdańsk. As of the 2025–26 Ekstraklasa, 2025–26 season, they compete in the Ekstraklasa. The club was founded in 1945 by people Polish population transfers (1944–1946), expelled from Lviv, Lwów, who were supporters of Poland's oldest football team Lechia Lwów, founded in 1903. History Gedania Danzig Formed on 15 August 1922, Gedania was an ethnic Polish football team who played in the Free City of Danzig (present day Gdańsk, Poland). SKS Stoczniowiec Gdańsk is a football club based in Gdańsk, Poland. It spent a large part of its history as Polonia Gdańsk. The club was founded in 1945 and currently plays in the Gdańsk regional divisions. It is best known for its period of success in the 1970s which saw the club play in the Polish Cup semifinal and almost achieve promotion to the top flight of Polish football, and for a merger with Lechia Gdańsk creating the Lechia-Polonia Gdańsk team which played between 1998-2002. Jaguar Gdańsk is a sports club based in Gdańsk, Poland. The club was founded in 2001, with the academy being officially registered on 20 September 2017.
