Poojappura is a suburb of Thiruvananthapuram in India. It is known as heart of Thiruvananthapuram city. It is located in the south-east part of the city, surrounded by Jagathy, Karamana, Mudavanmugal and Thirumala. This place was once used as the worship place during the Navaratri festival season. The name Poojappura comes from the fact that it was here that the King of Travancore used to arrive during Mahanavami celebrations for the ''pooja'' (worship). There is the big Kavadi Procession on Vijayadeshami day with over 700 Kavadis, Paravakavadi, Suryakavadi, Mayilkavadi, Agnikavadi etc. Poojappura is known for housing the Central Prison (Central Jail) of Kerala. The central jail is one of the oldest in the state and was built by British Engineers during Travancore Reign. Mahanavami
Navaratri () is an annual Hindu festival observed in honor of the goddess Durga, an aspect of Adi Parashakti, the supreme goddess. It spans over nine nights, first in the month of Chaitra (March/April of the Gregorian calendar), and again in the month of Ashvin (September–October). Shobana
Shobana Chandrakumar Pillai (born 21 March 1970); known mononymously as Shobana, is an Indian actress and Bharatanatyam dancer, who works predominantly in Malayalam films, in addition to Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, English and Kannada films. She is a recipient of two National Film Awards, one Kerala State Film Awards and two Filmfare Awards South. In 2011, Shobana received the Kalaimamani by Tamil Nadu Government. Poojappura Ravi
Raveendran Nair (28 October 1936 – 18 June 2023), known by his stage name Poojappura Ravi, was an Indian actor who primarily performed comedy roles in Malayalam films. Career Poojappura Ravi was a stage actor and was a part of the drama institution Kalanilayam Drama Vision. He had appeared in Malayalam films starting in the mid-1970s, as well as in many black and white movies produced in Kerala. Ravi was a flexible character actor. and appeared in over 600 films. In the 1990s, he appeared in television serials. Personal life and death Ravi was born to Madhavan Pillai and Bhavaniyamma, as the eldest of four children, at Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram. He attended Chinnamma Memorial Girls High School and Thirumala Higher Secondary School. He was married to Thankamma, and had a daughter, Lakshmi, and a son, Hari Kumar. Priyadarshan Soman Nair (born 30 January 1957) is an Indian film director and screenwriter. He has worked primarily in Malayalam cinema, Malayalam and Hindi cinema, Hindi cinema since 1982, directing over 90 films in multiple Indian languages, with notable works in Tamil language, Tamil and Telugu language, Telugu.
