Polk County is a county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 44,977. Its county seat is Balsam Lake. The county was created in 1853 and named for United States President James K. Polk. History After the Wisconsin Territory was established in 1836, large amounts of American Indian territories were ceded to the United states via the White Pine Treaty, formally known as the treaty of St. Peters, much of the land was covered in vast pine forests, and logging activates began soon after. Dunn County is a county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 45,440. Its county seat is Menomonie. Dunn County comprises the Menomonie Micropolitan Statistical Area and is included in the Eau Claire-Menomonie, WI Combined Statistical Area. History Dunn county was founded in 1854 from Chippewa County and organized in 1857. It is named for Charles Dunn, the territory's first chief justice. State Trunk Highway 65 (often called Highway 65, STH-65 or WIS 65) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It runs north–south in west central Wisconsin from St. Croix Falls to Ellsworth. Route description WIS 65 begins at the corner of West Main Street ( US Highway 10, US 10) and North Maple Street in downtown Ellsworth in Pierce County. WIS 65 heads north on Maple Street out of town, splitting off with County Trunk Highway J (CTH-J) north of the Ellsworth Country Club golf course.
