Polk County, Missouri
Polk County is a county located in the southwestern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 31,519. The county seat is Bolivar. The county was organized January 5, 1835, and is named for Ezekiel Polk. Polk County is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. History Polk County was separated and organized from Greene County on January 5, 1835. A supplement to the boundary change was made on March 13, 1835. Its original boundaries were later reduced in creating Dade, Dallas, and Hickory counties. It was named in honor of Col. Ezekiel Polk of Tennessee, a soldier who served under General George Washington and who was the grandfather of John Polk Campbell and Ezekiel Madison Campbell, brothers who helped to settle Polk and Greene counties. Ezekiel Polk
Ezekiel Polk (December 7, 1747 – August 31, 1824) was an American soldier, pioneer and the paternal grandfather of President James K. Polk. Early life Ezekiel Polk was born on December 7, 1747, the seventh of eight children born to William Polk and Margaret Taylor Polk of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, near present-day Carlisle. Around 1753, the family moved southwestward to the southern boundary of North Carolina in what would become Mecklenburg County. Fair Play is a city in western Polk County, Missouri, United States. The population was 475 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The first post office in Fair Play was established in 1852. The founder wished to call it Oakland, but because that name was already assigned to another community, he declared "We'll just call it Fair Play". Geography Fair Play is located at the intersection of Missouri routes 32 and 123. Bolivar is 6.5 miles to the east and Stockton on Stockton Lake is twelve miles to the west-northwest. Route 215 is a highway in southern Missouri. Its northern terminus is at Route 39 south of Stockton; its southern terminus is at U.S. Route 65 between Buffalo and Springfield. Except for a short section which overlaps Route 13, it is a two-lane highway its entire length. It was originally a set of supplemental routes before 1970. Route 123 is a highway in southwestern Missouri. Its northern terminus is at U.S. Route 54 (Missouri), U.S. Route 54 in Weaubleau, Missouri, Weaubleau; its southern terminus is at U.S. Route 160 (Missouri), U.S. Route 160 in Willard, Missouri, Willard. Route description The current highway begins in Weableau. South of Humansville, it crosses Route 13 and at Fair Play it intersects Route 32 (Missouri), Route 32. Missouri's 1st congressional district is in the eastern portion of the state. It includes all of St. Louis City and much of northern St. Louis County, including the cities of Maryland Heights, University City, Ferguson and Florissant.
