The politics of the Nunavut involves not only the governance of the Nunavut but also the social, economic and political issues specific to the territory. This includes matters relating to local governance and governance by the federal government of Canada, the inclusion of the aboriginal population in territorial affairs, and the matter of official languages for the territory. Key to the politics and governance of Nunavut are the limits on the jurisdiction of the territorial government. Nunavut
Nunavut is the largest and northernmost Provinces and territories of Canada#Territories, territory of Canada. The Council of the Federation (COF; ) is a multilateral congress composed of the premiers of each of Canada's 13 provinces and territories, which meets at least twice annually. The Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly, or Legislative Council of the Northwest Territories (with Northwest hyphenated as North-West until 1906), is the legislature and the seat of government of Northwest Territories in Canada. Prior to European colonization, the lands that encompass present-day Northwest Territories were inhabited for millennia by several First Nations. The secret ballot, also known as the Australian ballot, is a voting method in which a voter's identity in an election or a referendum is anonymous. This forestalls attempts to influence the voter by intimidation, blackmailing, and potential vote buying. This system is one means of achieving the goal of political privacy. Secret ballots are used in conjunction with various voting systems. The most basic form of a secret ballot uses paper ballots upon which each voter marks their choices. Without revealing the votes, the voter folds the ballot paper in half and places it in a sealed box. This box is later emptied for counting.
