The Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York City () is a consular mission of the Republic of Poland in the United States. It was inaugurated in 1919. Maciej Benedykt Golubiewski (born May 7, 1976) is a Polish political scientist and diplomat. Between 2017 and 2019 he served as the Consul General at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York City. Biography Golubiewski was born in Łódź, Poland. He passed the International Baccalaureate exams at United World College of the Atlantic in Great Britain (1995). He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude from Washington and Lee University (1999) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. He later studied political science at Johns Hopkins University (Master of Arts, 2005). For ten years Golubiewski lived in Washington DC, working in business consulting and cooperating with NGOs, think tanks, and universities, such as Center for Family and Human Rights. Poland–United States Relations
Official relations between Poland and the United States on a diplomatic level were initiated in 1919 after Poland had established itself as a republic after 123 years of being under foreign rule from the Partitions of Poland. However, ties with the United States date back to the 17th century, when the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth was one of Europe's largest powers, and many Poles immigrated to the Thirteen Colonies. During the American Revolutionary War, the Polish military commanders Tadeusz Kościuszko and Casimir Pułaski contributed greatly to the Patriot cause, with Kościuszko becoming a national hero in America. Polish nationality law is based primarily on the principle of jus sanguinis. Children born to at least one Polish parent acquire Polish citizenship irrespective of place of birth. Urszula Józefa Gacek (born 17 March 1963) is a Polish politician and a former member of the European Parliament, representing Civic Platform. Between 2014 and 2016 she was Consul General at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York City. __FORCETOC__ The Joseph Raphael De Lamar House is a mansion at 233 Madison Avenue at the corner of 37th Street in the Murray Hill, Manhattan, Murray Hill neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. The house, currently the Consulate General of Poland, New York City, was built in 1902–1905 and was designed by C. P. H. Gilbert in the Beaux-Arts architecture, Beaux-Arts style. The De Lamar Mansion marked a stark departure from Gilbert's traditional style of Gothic revival architecture, French Gothic architecture and was instead robustly Beaux-Arts, heavy with rusticated stonework, balconies, and a colossal mansard roof.
