Pokhara ( ) is a metropolis, metropolitan city located in central Nepal, which serves as the capital of Gandaki Province. Named the country's "capital of tourism" it is the List of cities in Nepal, second largest city after Kathmandu, with 599,504 inhabitants living in 120,594 households as of 2021 Nepal census, 2021 census. Pokhara is located west of the capital, Kathmandu, on the shore of Phewa Lake, and sits at an average elevation of approximately 822 m above sea level. Pokhara International Airport
Pokhara International Airport () is an international airport in Pokhara, Gandaki Province, Nepal. It is located east of the old Pokhara Airport, domestic airport, which it will gradually replace. The airport is Nepal's List of airports in Nepal, third international airport and officially began operations on 1 January 2023, with STOL operations to Jomsom Airport, Jomsom still being operated from the old airport. The airport is expected to handle up to one million passengers per year. History The idea of constructing an international airport in Pokhara was first proposed in 1971. In 1976, the Government of Nepal acquired land for the project. In 1989, the Japan International Cooperation Agency conducted a feasibility study. Mayor Of Pokhara
The mayor of Pokhara is the head of the municipal executive of Pokhara Metropolitan City. The role was first created in 1959. The current mayor is Dhana Raj Acharya who was elected in the 2022 election. The position has been held by sixteen people since its creation. Kaski District (, ), a part of Gandaki Province, is one of the seventy-seven districts of Nepal. The name is disambiguated from Kaskikot, the ancient Kaski Kingdom. Dhana Raj Acharya (; born 30 March 1970) is a Nepalese politician, businessman and philanthropist. He is currently serving as the 16th mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City. Acharya announced his candidacy under the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist) party for the mayoral election of Pokhara at the 2022 local election. He won the election with 58,893 votes. Sarangkot
Sarangkot is Ward 18 of Pokhara, Kaski District, Nepal, after it was merged into the city in 2015. It is a popular tourist destination for those who arrive in Pokhara. At the 1991 Nepal census it had a total population of 5,060 with 1,010 individual households. The Ward is located on Sarangkot, a hill on the western side of Pokhara with an altitude of 1600m. Gandaki Province ( ) ), is one of the seven federal provinces established by the current constitution of Nepal which was promulgated on 20 September 2015. Pokhara is the province's capital city. It borders the Tibet Autonomous Region in Southwest China to the north, Bagmati Province to the east, Karnali Province to the west, and Lumbini Province and Bihar of India to the south. Pumdikot Shiva Statue
Pumdikot is a hill station near Pokhara in Kaski District of Gandaki Province in Nepal. The place has a viewpoint at an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level and has the second tallest statue of Shiva in Nepal, after Kailashnath Mahadev Statue. Shiva statue Pumdikot is the second tallest statue of Shiva in Nepal. The statue itself is 51 feet tall. It sits on a white stupa that adds 57 feet in height, making the entire structure 108 feet high. International Mountain Museum
The International Mountain Museum (INM) is a museum located in Pokhara, Nepal. History The museum was inaugurated on 5 February 2004. During the years 2015-2016, visits to the museum dropped sharply, and its revenue also dropped by 50%, a direct consequence of the country's 2015 earthquakes. By 2019, 2.1 million tourists had visited the museum since its opening. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the museum closed in March 2020 and reopened in November 2020. Bindhyabasini Temple
The Bindhyabasini Temple ( Nepali: बिन्ध्यबासिनी मन्दिर) is the oldest temple in the city of Pokhara, Nepal. It's located in Ward No. 2, Miruwa. It regularly attracts a large number of locals, Nepalese from across the country, and foreigners alike. The main temple is devoted to the goddess Bindhyabasini, a Bhagawati (भगवती) who is the incarnation of Kali.
