Point Leo, Victoria
Point Leo is a town on the shore of Western Port bay on the eastern side of the Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Mornington Peninsula local government area. Point Leo recorded a population of 178 at the 2021 census. Point Leo Foreshore Reserve provides excellent waves for surfing and is one of the closest surf beaches to Melbourne. History The area was known as ''Bobbanaring'' to the local Bunurong people prior to European settlement. The area was first surveyed in 1841, and a town was proposed here in 1869, but the area did not develop until after World War II, when the Woods family built a house and store. Facilities were developed in the 1960s, including camping grounds, toilet blocks with hot showers on the foreshore and a kiosk on the surf beach. Electoral District Of Nepean
The electoral district of Nepean is an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Assembly covering the southernmost part of the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. It is named after Point Nepean, Victoria, Point Nepean which is contained within the electorate. The seat was created prior to the 2002 Victorian state election as a replacement for Electoral district of Dromana, Dromana. Like its predecessor, historically it had been a relatively safe seat for the Liberal Party of Australia (Victorian Division), Liberal Party, although Australian Labor Party (Victorian Branch), Labor came within 0.2% of winning it in 2002. Melbourne's bus network is a major transportation system in Australia, comprising around 400 bus routes. The bus network is run by private companies under contract to Public Transport Victoria. Buses in Melbourne use the Myki ticketing system, with the exception of SkyBus services. Bunurong
The Boonwurrung, also spelt Bunurong or Bun wurrung, are an Aboriginal people of the Kulin nation, who are the traditional owners of the land from the Werribee River to Wilsons Promontory in the Australian state of Victoria. Their territory includes part of what is now the city and suburbs of Melbourne. They were called the Western Port or Port Philip tribe by the early settlers, and were in alliance with other tribes in the Kulin nation, having particularly strong ties to the Wurundjeri people. The Registered Aboriginal Party representing the Boonwurrung people is the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation. Language Boonwurrung is one of the Kulin languages, and belongs to the Pama-Nyungan language family. 2021 Australian Census
The 2021 Australian census, simply called the 2021 Census, was the eighteenth national Census of Population and Housing in Australia. The 2021 Census took place on 10 August 2021, and was conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). It had a response rate of 96.1%, up from the 95.1% at the 2016 census. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as 25,422,788, an increase of 8.6 per cent or 2,020,896 people over the previous 2016 census. Results from the 2021 census were released to the public on 28 June 2022 from the Australian Bureau of Statistics website. A small amount of additional 2021 census data was released in October 2022 and in 2023. Australia's next census is scheduled to take place in 2026.
