Plympton is a suburb of the city of Plymouth in Devon, England. It is in origin an ancient stannary town. It was an important trading centre for locally mined tin, and a seaport before the River Plym silted up and trade moved down river to Plymouth and was the seat of Plympton Priory the most significant local landholder for many centuries. Plympton is an amalgamation of several villages, including St Mary's, St Maurice, Colebrook, Woodford, Newnham, and Chaddlewood. Clare, officially named the Municipality of the District of Clare, is a district municipality in south Nova Scotia, Canada. Statistics Canada classifies the district municipality as a municipal district. Geography The Municipality of the District of Clare occupies the western half of Digby County. Most of the municipality's settled areas are located along St. Marys Bay, a sub-basin of the Gulf of Maine. Digby County is a county in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. History It was named after the Township of Digby; this was named in honour of Rear Admiral Robert Digby, who dispatched HMS ''Atalanta'' to convey Loyalists from New York City in the spring of 1783 to Conway, which became known as Digby, as part of their evacuation and resettlement following the American Revolutionary War. The Crown resettled thousands of Loyalists in Nova Scotia and other areas of Canada. Digby County was established in 1837. Previously, from August 17, 1759, when Nova Scotia was first divided into counties, this area had been part of Annapolis County. In 1861, Digby County was divided into two sessional districts: Digby and Clare. These were eventually incorporated as district municipalities in 1879. Alfred William Savary
Alfred William Savary, (10 October 1831 – 30 March 1920) served as a Nova Scotia member of the 1st Canadian Parliament for the Digby riding. Savary was born in Plympton, Nova Scotia, the son of Sabine Savary and Olivia Marshall, and was educated at King's College in Windsor, Nova Scotia. He was called to the New Brunswick bar in 1857 and to the Nova Scotia bar in July 1861. Savary practised law in Digby, Nova Scotia. He was also editor of the ''New Brunswicker''. In 1872, he was named Queen's Counsel. Savary was married twice: to Bessie Crookshank Otty in 1877 and to Eliza Theresa Hunt in 1892. Savary ran unsuccessfully for the Digby seat in the Nova Scotia assembly in 1863. He was elected under the Anti-Confederation Party banner to the new Canadian Parliament in 1867, but became a Conservative in 1869. Plympton, Massachusetts
Plympton is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 2,930 at the 2020 census. The United States senator William Bradford was born here. History Plympton was first settled in 1662 by Reverend Justin P. Daley as the western parish of Plymouth. Lands of the original town included all of Carver and Halifax, as well as small portions of Kingston and Middleborough. The town was officially incorporated in 1707 and named for Plympton, Devon, England. In 1734, the town of Halifax separated and incorporated, and Carver did the same in 1790. The current boundaries of the town were set in 1862. Early residents of Plympton were mostly farmers, living off the land.
