The station was opened on 8 May 1986 as the western terminus of the one-line extension from Varela. It was originally called ''Plaza de los Virreyes''; however, ''Eva Perón'' was added to the name of the station to commemorate Eva Duarte de Perón, the prominent Argentine historical figure. The Premetro connects here at Intendente Saguier station. This station is the southernmost metro station in the world. The Línea P (P line), officially the Pyrenees Defense Organisation (), was a fortified line of defense built in the Pyrenees between 1944 and 1948 to prevent an invasion into Spanish territory. After the end of the Spanish Civil War, the government of General Franco decided to build a defensive line in the Pyrenees, that would go from the Mediterranean to the Cantabrian Sea, approximately of fortified defensive points, stretching up to a depth of from the border. Some 8,000 – 10,000 bunkers were planned, of which approximately half were completed. Their garrison would have theoretically consisted of about 75,000 men. There is no evidence that the line was ever fully armed and operational. Intendente Pedro Luis Saguier (commonly referred to as Intendente Saguier) is a station on the Buenos Aires Premetro The Premetro is a light rail line that runs along the outskirts of Buenos Aires, connecting with the Buenos Aires Underground line E, at Plaza de los Virreyes station and then to General Savio, with a short branch to Centro Cívico. Line E of the Buenos Aires Underground runs from Retiro to Plaza de los Virreyes, a total distance of 12 km. Opened in 1944, the Line E was the last completely new line to be added to the Buenos Aires Underground, until 2007 when Line H was opened. The line has a history of being re-routed and extended due to having been historically the line with the lowest passenger numbers on the network. The Premetro is a light rail line that runs along the outskirts of Buenos Aires, connecting with the Buenos Aires Underground Line E (Buenos Aires Metro), line E, at Plaza de los Virreyes station and then to General Savio, with a short branch to Centro Cívico. It opened in 1987 and is operated by Metrovías.
