''Planet Sound'' was a British music magazine founded in 1997 by Teletext Ltd. It featured on that company's teletext service (accessible via ITV and Channel 4) and official website. ''Planet Sound'' attracted a dedicated community of music fans, facilitated by its letters page, "The Void", and also received endorsements from chart musicians. John Earls
John Earls (born 25 August 1972) is an English music and sports journalist. He has been a regular contributor to music magazines such as the ''NME'', ''Record Collector'', ''Classic Pop'', and ''Planet Sound'', which he edited from 2001 until its closure in 2009. Earls is noted for helping to launch the careers of several future chart acts by featuring their demo tapes in ''Planet Sound''s review section. Colin Lester Irwin (19 May 1951 – 3 November 2022) was a British music journalist. Biography He was born in Chertsey, Surrey, England, and attended Strode's Grammar School in Egham. He studied journalism at Guildford College before working at the ''Slough Evening Mail'', and becoming a patron of folk clubs from the late 1960s. He started writing on a freelance basis for music magazines before joining ''Melody Maker'' in 1974, writing mainly about British folk music and interviewing many of the notable performers of the period. Nicky Wire
Nicholas Allen Jones (born 20 January 1969), known as Nicky Wire, is a Welsh musician, best known as lyricist, bassist and secondary vocalist of the Welsh alternative rock band Manic Street Preachers. Prior to the group, Wire studied politics at university: this would later influence his lyrical work. He was co-writer of the band's lyrics (alongside Richey Edwards) from 1989 to 1995, and has been the band's primary lyricist since 1995, following Edwards' disappearance. Paul Heaton
Paul David Heaton (born 9 May 1962) is an English singer-songwriter. He was the lead singer and main lyricist of the Housemartins, who had commercial success in the UK and other European countries between 1985 and 1988, releasing several singles including "Happy Hour" and the UK number-one single " Caravan of Love" in 1986, before the band disbanded. Heaton then formed the Beautiful South with the Housemartins' drummer, Dave Hemingway, and the band's debut single, " Song for Whoever", and debut album, ''Welcome to the Beautiful South'', were released in 1989 to commercial success. They had a series of hits throughout the 1990s, including the number-one single " A Little Time". They disbanded in 2007. Hope of the States are an English post rock-influenced indie band, formed in Chichester in 2000. Following the release of 2 albums, the band split up in 2006 before reuniting in 2024.
