Piroska Szekrényessy
Piroska Szekrényessy (born 1 May 1916 in Budapest, Hungary; died 30 October 1990 in Budapest) was a Hungarian pair skater who competed with her brother Attila Szekrényessy. They were six-time gold medalists at the Hungarian Figure Skating Championships. 1939 World Figure Skating Championships
The World Figure Skating Championships is an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union in which figure skating, figure skaters compete for the title of World Champion. Men and pairs competitions took place from February 17 to 19 in Budapest, Hungary. Ladies' competitions took place from February 11 to 12 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. These World Figure Skating Championships were the last before World War II. The Austrian skaters Edi Rada, Emmy Puzinger, Ilse Pausin / Erich Pausin, and the judge H. Deistler represented Germany. The World Figure Skating Championships are an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union (ISU). The first World Championships were held in 1896 in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and they have been held ever since with only four interruptions. A separate competition for women was established in 1905, with the men's and women's events held as separate competitions for several years. Pair skating was added in 1908 and ice dance in 1952. Skaters are eligible to compete at the World Championships, provided they represent a member nation of the International Skating Union and are selected by their respective federation. Skating federations have the liberty to make their own selections, but skaters competing at the World Championships must have earned the minimum required element scores. The European Figure Skating Championships are an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union (ISU). Medals are awarded in single skating, men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance. The event is the sport's oldest competition. The first European Championships were held in 1891 in Hamburg, Germany, and featured one segment – compulsory figures – with seven competitors. They have been held since 1891 with only five interruptions. Women were allowed to compete for the first time in 1930, which was also when pair skating was added to the competition. Ice dance was added in 1954.
