Pioneer Park or Pioneer Reserve is a public park situated between Pakenham, Short, Phillimore and Market Streets in Fremantle, Western Australia. Fremantle West End Heritage Area
Fremantle West End Heritage area is a designated heritage precinct in Fremantle, Western Australia. The City of Fremantle nominated the area in 2014 for inclusion in the State Register of Heritage Places to the Heritage Council of Western Australia. The establishment of the area was announced in 2016. The area includes over 250 buildings and covers an area of approximately in the western end of Fremantle. The area is the largest ever addition to the state register. The boundary starts across from the Fremantle Railway Station, at the Phillimore and Market Streets intersection, runs along Market Street to Collie Street, along Marine Terrace to the railway line, and then north, past the intersection (off the Phillimore westernmost roundabout that crosses the railway line) around to the rear of Phillimore street properties, until the railway station. Fremantle Railway Station
Fremantle railway station is the terminus of Transperth's Fremantle line in Western Australia. History The original Fremantle station opened in Cliff Street on 1 March 1881 as the terminus of the Eastern Railway to Guildford via Perth. As the Eastern Railway was extended, its importance grew. It became an important hub for gold miners arriving in Western Australia via ship and then travelling to the Yilgarn and Eastern Goldfields when the line opened to Kalgoorlie in 1896. In 1907, a new station and marshalling yards were established 300 metres to the north-east on the site of the former Fremantle Railway Workshops to better service the newly constructed Fremantle Harbour. The station was designed by William Dartnall, Chief Engineer of Existing Lines of the Railway Department in 1905. Spare Parts Puppet Theatre
The Spare Parts Puppet Theatre is located at 1–9 Short Street, Fremantle, Western Australia, in Pioneer Park, Fremantle, Pioneer Park, opposite the Fremantle railway station. History The building was constructed as a commercial building in 1921. It is a two-storey limestone building with a corrugated iron roof, constructed in the Federation architecture#Styles, Federation Free Classical style of architecture. The building was used as the State Shipping Service of Western Australia, State Shipping Service Office. In 1975 it was vested in the City of Fremantle and in September 1978 it was officially opened as the Fremantle Art Gallery. Ugly Men's Association
The Ugly Men's Voluntary Worker's Association of Western Australia Inc., generally shortened to the Ugly Men's Association or Ugly Men was a uniquely Western Australian fund-raising and charitable organisation established in 1917. Previously, a Mrs Alicia Pell had organised an "Uglie Man" competition to raise funds for the Red Cross in Kalgoorlie. The East Perth Football Club then built on the concept to raise funds for the Perth Children's Hospital and the War Patriotic Fund. The football club's work developed into a successful grassroots organisation with the first branch opening in the Perth suburb of Mount Lawley and focusing on supporting cases of hardship caused by war. The Ugly Men were a major force in the cultural life for both men and women in 1920s Perth, with membership mainly from the lower and middle working-classes.
