Sephardic
Sephardic Jews, also known as Sephardi Jews or Sephardim, and rarely as Iberian Peninsular Jews, are a Jewish diaspora population associated with the historic Jewish communities of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) and their descendants. The term "Sephardic" comes from '' Sepharad'', the Hebrew word for Iberia. These communities flourished for centuries in Iberia until they were expelled in the late 15th century. Over time, "Sephardic" has also come to refer more broadly to Jews, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa, who adopted Sephardic religious customs and legal traditions, often due to the influence of exiles. João Pinheiro Chagas
João Pinheiro Chagas (1 September 1863 – 28 May 1925; ) was a Portuguese politician, literary critic, propagandist, editor, and journalist. He was heavily involved in several rebellions condemning the monarchy and disseminating materials via pamphlets and newspaper in support of the Portuguese Republican Party. He was among the leaders of the 5 October 1910 revolution and the Lisbon Regicide, and later served as Ambassador to Paris, and twice as interim prime minister of the Portuguese First Republic. Wilson Pinheiro
Wilson Pinheiro (died in 1980) was the president of the Brasiléia Rural Workers Union in the State of Acre in Brazil. He helped lead the fight against ranchers who were destroying the Amazon rainforest. Pinheiro was committed to defend the Amazon and was assassinated on July 21, 1980. He was a colleague of Chico Mendes, the president of the Xapuri Rural Workers Union, who similarly lost his life defending the Amazon. History Pinheiro grew up in Acre, Brazil, a rubber-producing region in the Amazon River Basin. During the 1960s, rubber prices had collapsed to the point that many landowners were beginning to sell their land to cattle ranchers. Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro (21 March 1846 – 23 January 1905; spelled Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro in older Portuguese orthography) was a Portuguese artist known for his illustration, caricatures, sculpture, and ceramics designs. Bordalo Pinheiro created the popular cartoon character Zé Povinho (1875) and is considered the first Portuguese comics creator. Life Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro was a disciple of his father, the painter Manuel Maria Bordalo Pinheiro. Paulo Sérgio Pinheiro (born 8 January 1944) is a Brazilian legal scholar with relevant work within the United Nations System. Career Pinheiro was born in Rio de Janeiro. He has a long career in academia, having held academic positions at the University of São Paulo, among others. Within the United Nations System, he served as the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar from 2000 to 2008. He also served as United Nations Special Rapporteur for Burundi from 1995 to 1999, and was a member of the Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights. Nuno Miguel Araújo Pinheiro (born 31 December 1984 in Espinho) is a professional volleyballer who plays for S.L. Benfica as a setter. Pinheiro was recruited to the Portugal men's national team in May 2002 and represented the country until 2015. Moses Pinheiro
Moses Pinheiro (d. 1689) was an Italian Jew who lived in Livorno in the seventeenth century. He was one of the most influential pupils and followers of Sabbatai Zevi. He was held in high esteem on account of his religious and kabbalistic knowledge; and, as the maternal grandfather of Joseph Ergas, the well-known anti-Sabbatean, he had great influence over the Jews of Leghorn, urging them to believe in Sabbatai. Even later, in 1667, when Shabbethai's apostasy was rumored, Pinheiro, in common with numerous other adherents of Zevi, still believed him to be the messiah. Pinheiro was "the center of the Shabbatean group in Livorno", and he maintained a correspondence with Shabbetai Zevi over the years, after his return from Constantinople to Livorno in 1667. Lucas Pinheiro Braathen (; born 19April 2000) is a Norwegian-born Brazilian FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, World Cup Alpine skiing, alpine ski racer. Until his retirement from World Cup racing inOctober 2023, he represented Norway in international competition. In March 2024, Braathen announced that he would return to ski racing, representing Brazil instead. Early life Braathen was born in Oslo to a Norwegian father and Brazilian mother on 19 April 2000. Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro (Almada, 21 November 1857 – Lisbon, 6 November 1929), who is usually referred to as Columbano, was a Portuguese Realist painter.
