Pietro Aquila (after Annibale Carracci),
Pietro Aquila (c. 1630–1692) was an Italian painter and printmaker of the Baroque period. He was born in Palermo. He mentored his nephew, the printmaker Francesco Faraone Aquila. Biography He trained at the school of Palermo painter and engraver Pietro del Po and worked, like a teacher, first at home, in Palermo, then in Naples and Rome, where he pursued the ecclesiastical career. For his paintings that he left in Palermo in the church of the Pietà (Parabola del Figlio Prodigo, Abraham and Melchizede) and in the cloister of S. Maria delle Vergini (S. Benedetto), as well as some frescoes in the Chapel of the Rosary in S. Cita, he gained the status of ''"respectable painter"'', loyal to the Raphaelesque tradition. But Aquila established himself first and foremost as a copper engraver, dedicating himself to the distribution and popularization of many of the most remarkable paintings with the help of which the sacred and profane buildings of Rome were adorned at that time. Palazzo Farnese () or Farnese Palace is one of the most important High Renaissance palaces in Rome. Owned by the Italian Republic, it was given to the French government in 1936 for a period of 99 years, and currently serves as the French embassy in Italy. First designed in 1517 for the Farnese family, the building expanded in size and conception when Alessandro Farnese became Pope Paul III in 1534, to designs by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger. Giovanni Maria Morandi (30 April 1622 – 18 February 1717) was an Italian Baroque painter, known for altarpieces and portraits. Biography He was born in Florence. He studied art with Orazio Fidani and Giovanni Bilivert. Very few works date from this period, although a painting of Christ at the (demolished) is mentioned by Raffaelo Del Bruno in his guide book to Florence (1757). He probably left there sometime in the late 1640s or early 1650s. Most of his career was spent in Rome, where he painted numerous altarpieces, including the '' Death of Mary'' in the church of Santa Maria della Pace (1664). Ciro Ferri (1634 – 13 September 1689) was an Italian Baroque sculptor and painter, the chief pupil and successor of Pietro da Cortona. Biography He was born in Rome, where he began working under Cortona and with a team of artists in the extensive fresco decorations of the Quirinal Palace (1656–59). He collaborated with Cortona and completed for him the extensive frescoed ceilings and other internal decorations begun in the Pitti Palace, Florence (1659–65). His independent masterpiece is considered an extensive series of scriptural frescoes in the church of Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore (Bergamo). Giovanni Lanfranco (26 January 1582 – 30 November 1647) was an Italian Baroque painter. Biography Giovanni Gaspare Lanfranco was born in Parma, the third son of Stefano and Cornelia Lanfranchi, and was placed as a page in the household of Count Orazio Scotti. His talent for drawing allowed him to begin an apprenticeship with the Bolognese artist Agostino Carracci, brother of Annibale Carracci, working alongside fellow Parmese Sisto Badalocchio in the local Farnese palaces.
