A snow anchor (also called a snow pro) is a type of natural or artificial protection used in mountaineering, alpine climbing and ice climbing as an anchor (climbing), anchor. Two common artificial devices are the snow fluke and snow picket. A snow anchor is used both for climbing and for securing tents and other camping gear, that is designed for use in sand and snow. A snow fluke is a bent square or rectangle, approximately , and is made of aluminum or other metal, with a cable attached at two points on the upper surface. A fluke correctly used is buried in the snow, tip pointed down, approximately 40° from the angle of the mountain slope. Flukes can deflect or dislodge in harder-packed or dry snow, and are therefore more reliably used in heavy, moist snow. A snow picket is usually made of lightweight aluminum in long T-shaped design. Picket Twenty is a suburb of Andover, in the Test Valley district of Hampshire, England. The centre of Andover lies to the (2.6 km) north-west of the suburb. For much of its existence it was a free-standing hamlet. History On the 1888 OS map, only the farmstead of "Picket Twenty Farm" is drawn, although "Pavey's Farm" is relatively nearby" Just thirteen dwellings are listed for Picket Twenty in the 1962 Kelly's Directory of Andover, it appears this number remained constant until 2008. Construction began in 2010 for 1,200 new homes on agricultural land near to the hamlet. By September 2019 1158 homes were occupied. After 2017 in a further phase of development, housing was built beneath Andover Down, and relatively close to Harewood forest. Picket Range
The Picket Range is a small, extremely rugged subrange of the North Cascades in the northwestern part of the American state of Washington. It is entirely contained within North Cascades National Park. It is about long, running northwest–southeast, and lies north of the Skagit River, west of Ross Lake, and east of Mounts Baker and Shuksan. There are at least 21 peaks in the range over high. Swedish American Lage Wernstedt of the U.S. Forest Service mapped the Picket Range in the 1920s and named it for its resemblance to a picket fence (and not for George Pickett). Wernstedt was also apparently responsible for the names of the main peaks, including Mt. Challenger, Fury, Terror, and Phantom. These names first appeared on maps in 1931. There are few trails in the Picket Range, and any excursion there has a strong wilderness character.
