Pfäffikon is a municipalities of Switzerland, municipality in the Cantons of Switzerland, canton of Canton of Zürich, Zürich in Switzerland. It is the seat of the district of the same name. It is not to be confused with Pfäffikon, Schwyz, Pfäffikon SZ on Lake Zurich but in the canton of Schwyz. History In Roman era, along ''Pfäffikersee'' there was built a Roman road from the ''vicus Centum Prata'' (Kempraten) on Obersee (Zürichsee), Obersee–Lake Zürich via ''Vitudurum'' (Winterthur#History, Oberwinterthur) to ''Tasgetium'' (Eschenz) to the Rhine. To secure this important transport route, the Irgenhausen Castrum was built. The native name of the fort is unknown, thus Irgenhausen was mentioned in 811 AD as ''Camputuna sive Irincheshusa''. Maybe the castrum's name was ''Cambodunum'', the name of the neighbouring village of Kempten ZH, Kempten (Wetzikon). Pfäffikon is first mentioned in 811 as ''faffinchova''. Pfäffikon, Schwyz
Pfäffikon is a former municipality and principal town of the municipality of Freienbach in the canton of Schwyz, Switzerland. Together with Wollerau, Pfäffikon is considered the principal town of the district (''Bezirk'') of Höfe and the center of the region of Ausserschwyz. The former farm town is known for its focus on hedge funds. With 7,200 residents, Pfäffikon is the third biggest town in the canton after Küssnacht and Einsiedeln. Politics Pfäffikon, together with Wilen bei Wollerau, Freienbach, Bäch and Hurden, form the Municipality of Freienbach. In 1848, Pfäffikon lost its independent status and was subsequently merged into Freienbach. Education Pfäffikon offers 8 kindergartens, 3 primary schools and one secondary school, as well as one of the two cantonwide schools and an open university.
