Petre Mândru
Petre Mândru (born 13 September 1935), also known as Pierre Mindru, is a Romanian former football goalkeeper. He played two games for Romania under head coach Augustin Botescu at the 1960 European Nations' Cup quarter-finals where they were defeated by Czechoslovakia, who advanced to the final tournament. He spent his entire professional career with Progresul București, where he made over 200 league appearances. After his playing days ended, Mândru became a coach and managed several Algerian and Moroccan clubs. He also managed clubs in Canada and the United States and was Eddie Firmani's assistant head coach at Montreal Manic in the NASL. His son Christian Mindru was also a goalkeeper who played for the Montreal Impact in the 1990s. Mândru ran a soccer school in the Montreal area, which lasted from 1984 to 2015. Craiova
Craiova (, also , ) is the largest city in southwestern Romania, List of Romanian cities, the seventh largest city in the country and the capital of Dolj County, situated near the east bank of the river Jiu River, Jiu in central Oltenia. The Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 (), known as Championnat National de Première Division or Ligue 1 for short, and formerly known as the Championnat National 1, is the Algerian professional league for association football clubs. It is the country's primary football competition and serves as the top division of the Algerian football league system. The 1959–60 Cupa României was the 22nd edition of Romania's most prestigious Association football, football Single-elimination tournament, cup competition. The title was won by FC Progresul București, Progresul București against Victoria București, Dinamo Obor București. Format The competition is an annual Single-elimination tournament, knockout tournament. North American Soccer League
The North American Soccer League (NASL) was the top-level major professional soccer league in the United States and Canada that operated from 1968 to 1984. It is considered the first soccer league to be successful on a national scale in the United States. The league final was called the Soccer Bowl from 1975 to 1983 and the Soccer Bowl Series in its final year, 1984. The league was headed by Commissioner Phil Woosnam from 1969 to 1983. Eddie Firmani
Edwin Ronald Firmani (; born 7 August 1933) is a former professional football player and manager. A former forward, he spent most of his playing career in Italy and England. He managed 13 different clubs over 29 years, mostly in the United States, Canada, and the Middle East. Born in South Africa, he represented the Italy national team internationally. Playing career Firmani played as a centre or inside forward. He joined English team Charlton Athletic in 1950 and became a regular goal scorer, including scoring five goals in a 6–1 win against Aston Villa in 1955. At the time the Charlton team included several South Africans, John Hewie, Stuart Leary and Sid O'Linn. 1960 European Nations' Cup
The 1960 European Nations' Cup was the inaugural tournament of the UEFA European Championship, held every four years and organised by UEFA. The first tournament was held in France. It was won by the Soviet Union, who beat Yugoslavia 2–1 in Paris after extra time. The tournament was a knockout competition, with just 17 teams entering. There were some notable absences, including West Germany, Italy, Netherlands and England, each of whom had voted against the creation of the tournament in 1957.
