Petras Geniušas
Petras Geniušas (born 1961 in Vilnius) is a Lithuanian classical pianist. During his career he has worked with composers Alfred Schnittke, Bronius Kutavičius, Osvaldas Balakauskas and Leonid Desyatnikov, some of whom have dedicated several of their compositions to him. Geniushas' career as a teacher has included master classes in Tokyo and Osaka, the Swedish-Baltic master classes Academia Baltica, and the Royal Academy of Music in London. He has permanent teaching positions at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, and the Yamaha Music Foundation's primary music school in Tokyo. For his wide-ranging musical accomplishments, Geniušas has been awarded the Lithuanian National Prize. His son is the pianist Lukas Geniušas. = Petras = Petras () is the archaeological site of an ancient Minoan civilization, Minoan town on northeastern Crete. It includes a building which shows strong similarities with Minoan palaces and is sometimes labeled as a palace. Architecture The architecture of Petras consisted mainly of a palace and houses attached built on terraces which contained storerooms, workshops and living quarters. Two houses known as House 1 and House 2 were uncovered which give insights into the societal practices of Petras. A hieroglyphic archive was also discovered during excavations. The region where Petras became archeologically known through the work of Metaxia Tsipopoulou and only became part of the discourse in 1985. The Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts (), established in 1989, is an award granted for achievements in culture and the arts. It has been awarded annually in six categories since 2006 (between 1989 and 2006 there were nine categories). The prize is formally bestowed on February 16, when the decorations and diplomas are presented to the laureates at Presidential Palace, commemorating the anniversary of the 1918 Act of Independence of Lithuania. The award honors significant recent achievements in cultural fields and works by artists or art collectives. The honorees may be citizens of Lithuania or members of the Lithuanian World Community. When the award was first established, works accomplished during the previous five years were considered; this period was extended to seven years in 2008. Lukas Geniušas (; born July 1, 1990, in Moscow) is a Russian-Lithuanian pianist. Geniušas began to study piano at the age of five, and in 1996 he entered the Moscow Frederic Chopin College of Music Performing. He studied piano with professor Vera Gornostayeva at the Moscow State Conservatory. Since 2004, he has received the M. Rostropovich Foundation scholarship. He started to perform in public in 1996, and since that time he performed with various orchestras in venues in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vilnius, Wroclaw and Hamburg. He arranged solo appearances in Russia, Poland, Sweden, Germany, France, Switzerland, Lithuania, and Austria. The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in Vilnius, Lithuania, is a state-supported College or university school of music, conservatory that trains students in music, theatre, and multimedia arts. History Composer Juozas Naujalis founded a music school in 1919 in Kaunas. This school was reorganised into the Kaunas Conservatory in 1933. In 1949 the ''Kaunas Conservatory'' and the ''Vilnius Conservatory'', founded in 1945, were merged into the ''Lithuanian State Conservatory''.
