Peter Bay is music director of the Austin Symphony Orchestra. Life He graduated from the University of Maryland and the Peabody Institute. He has previously been Music Director and Conductor of the Britt Festival Orchestra in Oregon, Music Director of the Erie Philharmonic, the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, and the Breckenridge Music Festival, and has held conducting posts with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Richmond Symphony, and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. Austin Symphony Orchestra
The Austin Symphony Orchestra is the oldest performing group in Austin, Texas, USA. It was founded in 1911. History The inaugural concert of the Austin Symphony Orchestra was held on April 25, 1911. Initially, the orchestra consisted of 28 unpaid members and an unpaid conductor. The orchestra now has over 90 members, but is still not a full-time orchestra. It was not until 1948 that a paid music director was appointed — Ezra Rachlin being the first appointee – and a regular concert series was presented. He remained in the post for 21 years, until 1969. Rachlin organised a drive-in concert, the world's first, in 1948. The first children's concert was held in 1951. Richmond Symphony
The Richmond Symphony is based in Richmond, Virginia, US and is the largest performing arts organization in Central Virginia and one of the nation's leading regional orchestras. The organization includes a full-time orchestra with more than 70 musicians, the Richmond Symphony Chorus with 150 volunteer members, and the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra programs with more than 260 student participants. Each season, approximately 200,000 community members listen to live concerts and radio broadcasts by the Richmond Symphony, and 55,000 students and teachers participate in the Symphony's educational outreach programs. American Symphony Orchestra
The American Symphony Orchestra is a New York–based American orchestra founded in 1962 by Leopold Stokowski whose mission is to demystify orchestral music and make it accessible and affordable for all audiences. Leon Botstein is the orchestra's music director and principal conductor. They perform regularly at Carnegie Hall and Symphony Space in New York City. History Stokowski was 80 years old when he founded the orchestra. He served as music director together with assistant Amos Meller until May 1972 when, at the age of 90, he returned to England. Following Maestro Stokowski's departure, Kazuyoshi Akiyama was appointed music director from 1973 to 1978. The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) is an American orchestra based in the city of Rochester, New York. Its primary concert venue is the Eastman Theatre at the Eastman School of Music.
