Pet Sounds Recording Studio
The Pet Sounds Recording Studio (usually referred to as simply Pet Sounds Studio or Pet Sounds, after the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds, album of the same name) was a recording studio located in Denver, Colorado (subsequently in Lexington, Kentucky), founded by Robert Schneider of the Apples in Stereo and Jim McIntyre (musician), Jim McIntyre of Von Hemmling. Many Elephant 6 albums were recorded in the studio, including the critically acclaimed ''In the Aeroplane Over the Sea'' by Neutral Milk Hotel. It was demolished in 1999; a high-rise condominium was subsequently erected on the site. History Robert Schneider, one of the founders of The Elephant 6 Recording Co., began producing music for various Elephant 6 bands (including his own) in the mid-1990s. A number of these earlier recording sessions occurred at Schneider's friend Kyle Jones's house in Denver, Colorado. The Beach Boys
The Beach Boys are an American Rock music, rock band formed in Hawthorne, California, in 1961. The group's original lineup consisted of brothers Brian Wilson, Brian, Dennis Wilson, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and their friend Al Jardine. Distinguished by their vocal harmonies, adolescent-oriented lyrics, and musical ingenuity, they are one of the most influential acts of the rock era. The group drew on the music of Traditional pop, older pop vocal groups, 1950s rock and roll, and black R&B to create their unique sound. Steve Keene (born 1957) is an American painter known as a prolific creator of affordable art. Early life and education Originally from Charlottesville, Virginia, Keene earned a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and a MFA from Yale University. Career When Keene was a volunteer DJ at the college radio station WTJU in Charlottesville, Virginia in the 1990s, he became friends with musician David Berman and future members of the band Pavement, and seeing them hustle to sell CDs and merchandise shaped his approach to producing and selling art. ''Her Wallpaper Reverie'' is the third album from The Apples in Stereo. The fifteen tracks listed for the album give the impression that it is about the same length as the band's previous two albums, but only seven of the tracks are "actual" songs. The other eight tracks play a variation of the same melody. These eight tracks are treated as musical interludes and are marked with Roman numerals. Most of these interludes range from ten seconds to a minute in length (with the exception of "vi. Drifting Patterns" which is over two and a half minutes long). The result length is 27 minutes. Critical response to the album was varied. A common criticism was that the album contained too many interludes. (In fact, there are more musical interludes on the album than there are songs.) The Minders
The Minders are an American band closely associated with the Elephant Six Collective. Started by Martyn Leaper in Denver, Colorado, in 1996, the band's original members included Leaper on guitars and vocals, Rebecca Cole on drums, Jeff Almond on guitar, and Marc Willhite on bass. Leaper formed the Minders in Denver along with Robert Schneider and Hilarie Sidney from the Apples in Stereo. Together they recorded ''Paper Plane EP'' in Athens, Georgia. Leaper recorded the "Come On & Hear" 7-inch record in Denver, Colorado, allegedly one of the fastest selling Elephant 6 releases in history. At this time, Leaper began attempting to form a more permanent band after releasing "Paper Plane" on 7". With a permanent lineup set, the band was able to release ''Rocket 58'' as an EP and sign to spinART Records, who released their first album ''Hooray for Tuesday'' in 1998.
