Persistent Chat is a messaging concept for group chat software that consist of standing, topic-based chatrooms with an emphasis on real-time messaging, that preserve conversation history over time which is visible to both current and future participants. This form of messaging was adopted by many organisations in regulated industries, to ensure compliance and was popular with the major financial centres around the world. History The Persistent Chat feature was first introduced in Microsoft Lync 2013 as a group chat offering that allows teams to create topic focused discussions. However, in the past it has been labelled as Group Chat, MindAlign Group Chat by Parlano created in 2000 which was later acquired by Microsoft in 2007. MindAlign provides an IRC like chatroom experience where topical chatrooms can be looked back through. Microsoft Teams is a proprietary business communication platform developed by Microsoft, as part of the Microsoft 365 family of products. Teams primarily competes with the similar service Slack, offering workspace chat and videoconferencing, file storage, and application integration. Teams replaced other Microsoft-operated business messaging and collaboration platforms, including Skype for Business and Microsoft Classroom.
