Perpignan
Perpignan (, , ; ; ) is the prefectures in France, prefecture of the Pyrénées-Orientales departments of France, department in Southern France, in the heart of the plain of Roussillon, at the foot of the Pyrenees a few kilometres from the Mediterranean Sea and the scrublands of the Corbières Massif, Corbières massif. It is the centre of the Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole metropolitan area. In 2021, Perpignan had a population of 119,656 in the commune proper, and the urban unit, agglomeration had a total population of 205,183, making it the last major French city before the Spain, Spanish border. Perpignan is sometimes seen as the "entrance" to the Iberian Peninsula. Perpignan was the capital of the provinces of France, former province and County of Roussillon (''Rosselló'' in Catalan) and continental capital of the Kingdom of Majorca in the 13th and 14th centuries. Louis Aliot
Louis Aliot (; born 4 September 1969) is a French politician and the vice president of the National Rally (previously named National Front) since 2011. A member of the FN Executive Office, Executive Committee and Central Committee, Aliot has been a regional councillor since 1998 ( Midi-Pyrénées: 1998–2010, Languedoc-Roussillon: 2010–) and a municipal councillor of Perpignan (2008–2009). Louis Aliot has been the mayor of Perpignan since July 2020. Politics and elections (1998–2011) Aliot was born in Toulouse, Haute-Garonne, to a family of ethnic French and Algerian Jewish heritage, who had resided in Algeria (Pied-noir). In the 1998 French regional elections, he was elected regional councillor of the Midi-Pyrénées and represented the department of Haute-Garonne for six years. The County of Roussillon (, , ) was one of the Catalan counties in the Marca Hispanica during the Middle Ages. The rulers of the county were the counts of Roussillon, whose interests lay both north and south of the Pyrenees. The historic county's lands today lie within the borders of France.
