Per Krohg
Per Lasson Krohg (18 June 1889 – 3 March 1965) was a Norwegian visual artist and teacher. He is best known for the mural he created for the United Nations Security Council Chamber, located in the United Nations headquarters in New York City. Biography Per Krohg was born in Åsgårdstrand, Norway, the son of painters Christian Krohg and Oda Krohg. The family lived in Paris, where Per Krohg grew up. He showed artistic talent early, and studied first with his father (from 1903 to 1907), then with Henri Matisse (from 1909 to 1910) at Académie Matisse. In the early years he worked as a newspaper illustrator, and taught tango in Paris. While in Paris, he was also the instructor of future architect Maja Melandsø. Cécile Marie Vidil
Lucy Krohg (née Cécile Marie Vidil; 6 April 1891 – 17 August 1977) was a French model, artist, dancer, and gallerist. Early life and family Cécile Marie Vidil was born on 6 April 1891, in Paris. She was the daughter of Cécile Vidil (née Jampa) and baker François Victor Vidil (d. 1938). An independent teen, she entered the circle of artists gathered around Montparnasse and Montmartre and was a model for Henri Matisse and Albert Marquet. In 1909, she met Jules Pascin and posed for him in the first representations of her to be found and, as would be with Pascin, a brief intimate relationship occurred starting in 1910. By 1910 she was the most favored model at the Académie Matisse the students founding her a perfect muse for their work. Christian Krohg
Christian Krohg (13 August 1852 – 16 October 1925) was a Norwegian naturalist painter, illustrator, author and journalist. Krohg was inspired by the realism art movement and often chose motifs from everyday life. He was the director and served as the first professor at the Norwegian Academy of Arts from 1909 to 1925. Biography Christian Krohg was born at Vestre Aker (now Oslo), Norway. He was one of five children born to Georg Anton Krohg (1817–1873) and Sophie Amalia Holst (1822–1861). He was a grandson of Christian Krohg (1777–1828) who had served as a government minister. His father was a civil servant, journalist and author. United Nations Security Council Mural
''Untitled (Mural for Peace)'', commonly known as the United Nations Security Council mural, is an oil painting by Norwegian artist Per Krohg exhibited at the Headquarters of the United Nations in New York City since August 22, 1952. The mural, an 18' x 29' canvas located on the UN Security Council chamber's east wall, features a central image of a rising phoenix surrounded by images of war and disharmony, near the mural's bottom, and more tranquil images at the top. The mural accompanied renovations to the Security Council by Norwegian architect Arnstein Arneberg, and was first publicly displayed on April 4, 1952. It was commissioned by the Norwegian government as a gift from Norway to the United Nations. Oslo City Hall () is a municipal building in Oslo, the capital of Norway. It houses the city council, the city's administration and various other municipal organisations. The building as it stands today was constructed between 1931 and 1950, with an interruption during the Second World War. It was designed by architects Arnstein Arneberg and Magnus Poulsson. The building is located in the city center, in the northern part of the Pipervika neighbourhood, and it faces Oslofjord. Oslo City Hall is built of red brick and has two towers, one 63 meters tall and other 66 meters tall. Fresco ( or frescoes) is a technique of mural painting executed upon freshly laid ("wet") lime plaster. Water is used as the vehicle for the dry-powder pigment to merge with the plaster, and with the setting of the plaster, the painting becomes an integral part of the wall.
