Penedès (division)
Penedès is one of the eight regions ( ''vegueries'') defined by the Regional Plan of Catalonia. Located in south of Catalonia, it includes the comarques from historical Penedès region (Alt Penedès, Baix Penedès and Garraf), along with the southern municipalities of Anoia. It had 497.764 inhabitants as of 2022. It was approved as a region in February 2017. Vegueria
A ''vegueria'' (), plural ', is the highest-level Subdivisions of Catalonia, regional division of Catalonia. Each vegueria is further divided into ''Comarques of Catalonia, comarques'' and Municipality, municipalities. As of 2025, the divides the territory into eight vegueries. The autonomous Val d'Aran, Aran Valley, considered a "unique territorial entity", is not part of any of vegueria. The vegueries system is based on the feudalism, feudal administrative territorial jurisdiction of the :wikt:veguería, vegueríes "vicariates" of the Principality of Catalonia, which was abolished with the Nueva Planta decrees of 1716. The comarques of Catalonia (singular ''comarca'', , ), often referred to in English as counties, are an Subdivisions of Catalonia, administrative division of Catalonia. Penedès () is a natural region, natural and historical region of Catalonia. It is located in the south of the autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain between the pre-coastal mountain range (''Serralada Pre-litoral'') and the Mediterranean Sea. Baix Penedès
Baix Penedès () is a comarca in the Penedès region, in Catalonia, Spain. The area has been settled since the times of the Iberians, with ancient ruins remaining in Banyeres at ''Can Canyís'', at the village of ''Guàrdies'' and in Calafell at the villages of ''Toixoneres'' and ''la Ciutadella'' ("The Citadel").
