Pelayo Novo García
Pelayo Novo García (1 November 1990 – 28 February 2023), known simply as Pelayo, was a Spanish professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He appeared in 116 Segunda División matches over six seasons, scoring a total of 12 goals for Elche, Córdoba, Lugo and Albacete. He retired in 2018 after being paralysed in a fall, and was involved in wheelchair tennis until his death at age 32. Club career Born in Oviedo, Asturias, Pelayo began playing with his hometown side Real Oviedo, spending his first three full seasons as a senior in the Segunda División B. In his last, he scored seven goals in 34 games (2,749 minutes of action) to help the team to finish in sixth position. On 6 July 2012, Pelayo signed a three-year contract with Elche CF of Segunda División. Elche Club de Fútbol, S.A.D. () is a Spanish professional football club based in Elche, Province of Alicante, in the Valencian Community, Spain. Founded in 1923, the club will compete in La Liga for the 2025–26 season, holding home matches at the Estadio Martínez Valero, with a capacity of 33,732 seats. Suicide Attempt
A suicide attempt is an act in which an individual tries to kill themselves but survives. Mental health professionals discourage describing suicide attempts as "failed" or "unsuccessful", as doing so may imply that a suicide resulting in death is a successful or desirable outcome. Epidemiology In the United States, the National Institute of Mental Health reports there are 11 nonfatal suicide attempts for every suicide death. The American Association of Suicidology reports higher numbers, stating that there are 25 suicide attempts for every suicide completion. The ratio of suicide attempts to suicide death is about 25:1 in youths, compared to about 4:1 in elderly.
