Pedro Rico López
Pedro Rico López (1888 – 1957) was a Spanish Republican politician. He served as mayor of Madrid from 1931 to 1934 and again in 1936, during the Second Spanish Republic. The Spanish Civil War broke out in July 1936, and Madrid was besieged by Nationalists. Rico left his office and headed towards Valencia in November. He was intercepted at Tarancón by anarchists, decried as a coward and sent back to the capital, where he sought asylum in the Mexican Embassy. He spent the rest of the war in Paris, Brussels and Barcelona before the defeat of the Republic. Rico lived in France for most of his exile, apart from attending the Cortes republicanas in Mexico in 1945. During World War II, he was persecuted by the Vichy France authorities. He was attacked by Francoist Spain for his alleged corruption and obesity, and his death at age 69 was barely mentioned by the regime's press. Grupo De Acción Republicana
The Grupo de Acción Republicana (in English: Republican Action Group) —initially called Grupo de Acción Política (Political Action Group) and also known simply as Acción Republicana (Republican Action)— was a Spanish political group that emerged around 1925, during the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera. Its ideology consisted basically in the intention of replacing the monarchy of Alfonso XIII with a republican regime, while maintaining a great internal pluralism in other matters. It promoted the creation of the Republican Alliance to unite the different forces of this tendency, and supported on a secondary level the different ''pronunciamientos'' that tried to put an end to the Dictatorship. Cayetano Redondo Aceña
Cayetano Redondo Aceña (7 August 188821 May 1940) was a Spanish politician, typographer, journalist and Esperantist. A member of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party, he served as Mayor of Madrid from November 1936 to May 1937, during the Spanish Civil War. Biography Born on 7 August 1888 in Segovia, he moved young to Madrid with his family. He worked as typographer. He became a member of the Unión General de Trabajadores (UGT) in 1905. In 1918, Redondo was leader of the National Federation of ''Juventudes Socialistas'', the youth wing of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE).
