Pedro González Ramos
Pedro Antonio Gonzalez Ramos (14 May 1935 – 26 May 2023) was a Puerto Rican academic administrator, doctor and educator. He graduated in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez in 1957. There he joined in 1953 the Beta chapter of Phi Sigma Alpha fraternity. He was the second Dean of the University of Puerto Rico at Humacao from 1960 to 1972. He was president of the Claro Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico Telephone Company and radio station WKAQ (AM). He was the President of Universidad del Sagrado Corazón from 1972 to 1986. Under his presidency new academic programs were added such as natural Sciences, Business and communications. The Dolphin was chosen as the university mascot and Sagrado joined Liga Atlética Interuniversitaria (LAI), he coordinated the visit of Pope John Paul II to the campus. Mayagüez, Puerto Rico
Mayagüez (, ) is the ninth-largest Municipalities of Puerto Rico, municipality in Puerto Rico. Universidad Del Sagrado Corazón
Universidad del Sagrado Corazón (English: University of the Sacred Heart), abbreviated "USC" and often called simply Sagrado, is a private Catholic Church, Catholic university in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is one of the oldest and largest educational institutions in Puerto Rico with origins dating back to the 1880 establishment of an elementary school by the Society of the Sacred Heart. The university is situated in an area which was urbanized in the first decades of the twentieth century with great residences that belonged to the privileged families of the time and is rich in architectural styles. Renowned architect Antonin Nechodoma, Antonín Nechodoma located his residence in Monteflores and some residences designed by him are still in the area. John Paul II
Pope John Paul II (born Karol Józef Wojtyła; 18 May 19202 April 2005) was head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from 16 October 1978 until Death and funeral of Pope John Paul II, his death in 2005. In his youth, Wojtyła dabbled in stage acting. He graduated with excellent grades from an All-boys school, all-boys high school in Wadowice, Poland, in 1938, soon after which World War II broke out. WKAQ (AM)
WKAQ (580 Hertz, kHz) is a commercial AM radio, AM radio station in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Currently owned by WAPA Media Group, the station airs a Spanish language talk radio format. Its programming is repeated on WUKQ, which broadcasts on 1420 kHz in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Ponce, and WYEL which broadcasts on 600 kHz in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, Mayagüez. The station was the first radio station to broadcast in Puerto Rico. According to Ernesto Vigoreaux, in the early days of music in Puerto Rico, the musicians would record music ''at'' the WKAQ radio station. WKAQ is the Puerto Rico primary entry point station for the Emergency Alert System. WKAQ was owned for many years by Angel Ramos, owner of the ''El Mundo (Puerto Rico), El Mundo'' newspaper, and eventual namesake for WKAQ-TV, branded as Telemundo. Claro Puerto Rico is the largest telecommunications service provider in Puerto Rico. It is headquartered in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, and has operated for almost a century offering voice, data, long distance, broadband, directory publishing and wireless services for the island residents and businesses. It was founded by the Behn brothers, Sosthenes and Hernan in 1914. Originally, Puerto Rico Telephone Company eventually spawned ITT Corporation, which was founded by Sosthenes Behn. El Mundo (Puerto Rico)
''El Mundo'' () is a Puerto Rican newspaper founded in 1919 by Romualdo Real. Its slogan was "Verdad y Justicia" (Truth and Justice). In 1929, former corrector-turned-administrator Angel Ramos and journalist José Coll Vidal, bought the newspaper when Real retired. In 1944 Ramos became the sole owner of the newspaper. Acquisitions ''El Mundo'' acquired WKAQ AM, the oldest radio station on the island, and later added WKAQ-TV channel 2. ''El Mundo'' also established WKAQ-FM, but it is unknown if the current station at 104.7 MHz was part of the operation in the Ramos days. The paper's radio operations were owned by "El Mundo Broadcasting", and the television station was owned by Telemundo; the Telemundo name would later be used by a mainland group of stations for the namesake Telemundo network now owned by NBC Universal, which also owns WKAQ-TV.
