Pearl Pia Ladies F.C. is a Ghanaian professional women's football club based in Tamale in the Northern Region of Ghana. The club features in the Ghana Women’s Premier League. Peal Pia was founded in the Northern region of Ghana as a women's club with a focus on player development and education. The club has a rivalry with Northern Ladies Football Club as the two teams are located in the Tamale in the Northern Region. On 21 December 2021, Pearl Pia escaped an armed robbery attack while returning from Techiman en route to Tamale after defeating reigning Northern Zone champions Ampem Darkoa. There were several gunshots fired at their team bus, but no one was hurt. The Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, formerly Tamale Sports Stadium, is a multipurpose stadium in Tamale, Ghana, mostly used for football matches as well as a place for hosting events and serves as the home stadium of Real Tamale United, Tamale City FC, and Steadfast FC. The stadium was completed in 2008 by the Shanghai Construction Group of China. The stadium looks similar to the Sekondi-Takoradi Stadium. The Ghana Women’s Premier League (GWPL), also known as the Guinness Ghana Breweries, Malta Guinness Women's Premier League for sponsorship reasons, was launched in 2012 as the National Women's League (NWL) and is a top division league for women's soccer in Ghana. In November 2021, Hilary Boateng was appointed by the Ghana Football Association as the chairperson of the Women's Premier League Committee.
