Peñarol
Club Atlético Peñarol (), more commonly referred to as Peñarol, is a Uruguayan professional football club based in Montevideo. The club currently competes in the Uruguayan Primera División, the highest tier in Uruguayan football. The name of the club comes from the neighborhood on the outskirts of Montevideo, which itself takes its name from Pinerolo, a town in the metropolitan area of Turin, in the Italian region of Piedmont. The club's origin dates back to the 28th of September 1891, when the club was initially established as the Central Uruguay Railway Cricket Club (also known by its acronym CURCC), founded by mostly British railway workers for the practise of cricket. 2024 Uruguayan Primera División Season
The 2024 Liga Profesional de Primera División season, also known as the Campeonato Uruguayo de Primera División 2024, was the 121st season of the Uruguayan Primera División, Uruguay's top-flight football league, and the 94th in which it is professional. The season, which was named " 100 años de Colombes", began on 16 February and ended on 2 December 2024. Peñarol were the champions, winning their fifty-second league title after winning both the Torneo Apertura and the Torneo Clausura, as well as topping the season's aggregate table, which ensured that the championship playoff would not be played. Diego Aguirre
Diego Vicente Aguirre Camblor (born 13 September 1965) is a Uruguayan football manager and former player who played as a forward. He currently manages Peñarol on the Uruguayan Primera División. Playing career A Liverpool Montevideo youth graduate, Aguirre joined the club in 1982 at the age of 16, and made his senior debut in the following year. In 1986, he moved to city rivals Peñarol, and was a part of the squad which won the 1987 Copa Libertadores, scoring a last-minute winner in the Final. In 1988, after an unassuming spell with Olympiacos, Aguirre had a brief stint with Sven-Göran Eriksson's ACF Fiorentina, appearing only in the Coppa Italia. He subsequently moved to Brazil, representing Internacional and São Paulo. Peñarol, Montevideo
Peñarol, also known as Peñarol–Lavalleja, is a working-class ''barrio'' (neighbourhood or district) of Montevideo, Uruguay. On 10 March 1913, Peñarol was declared a "pueblo" (village) by the Act of Ley Nº 4.311. On 1 July 1953, its status was elevated to "villa" (town) by the Act of Ley Nº 11.967. Ever since, it has been integrated to Montevideo. Fernando Morena
Fernando Morena Belora (born 2 February 1952) is a Uruguayan former professional Association football, footballer who played as a Forward (association football)#Striker, striker. His most known nicknames were "Nando"(abridged form of Fernando) and "Potrillo" (Colt, although young stallion is a better translation in this case), and he is the all-time top goal scorer in the history of the Uruguayan Primera División with 230 goals in 244 games. Juan Alberto "Pepe" Schiaffino Villalba (; 28 July 1925 – 13 November 2002) was a Uruguayan football player who played as an attacking midfielder or forward. A highly skilful and creative playmaker, at club level, he played for Peñarol in Uruguay, and for AC Milan, and Roma in Italy. At international level, he won the 1950 FIFA World Cup with the Uruguay national team, and also took part at the 1954 FIFA World Cup; he later also represented the Italy national football team.
