Paysandú () is the capital and most populous city of the Paysandú Department in western Uruguay. The Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary and St. Benedict of Palermo () is a Roman Catholic parish church in Paysandú, Uruguay. History The parish was established in 1805. The current temple was built in 1860, severely damaged during the siege of Paysandú (1864-1865) and rebuilt afterwards. It is dedicated to saint Benedict the Moor and the Virgin of the Rosary. In 1906 a Walcker organ was inaugurated. In 1949, Pope Pius XII proclaimed it basilica minor. Currently, a fundraising committee is advocating its refurbishment, understanding that, apart from its great religious and historic significance, this temple is also the venue of important cultural events. Route 1 (Uruguay)
Route 1 is a National Routes of Uruguay, national route of Uruguay. In 1975, it was assigned the name Brigadier General Manuel Oribe, a national hero of Uruguay. Tydeo Larre Borges International Airport () is a general aviation airport serving Paysandú, capital of the Paysandú Department of Uruguay. The airport is south of the city. It is named in honour of Tydeo Larre Borges, a pioneer of Uruguayan and international aviation, who was the first South American aviator to cross the South Atlantic. The airport has been served by government air service provider TAMU (es) and charter operator Aviasur. In December 2024 the airport was reopened after refurbishment as part of the overall plan for Uruguay’s international airports. Improvements include resurfacing of the main runway along with new runway LED lighting, LED taxiway lighting and approach lights. Frost is a thin layer of ice on a solid surface, which forms from water vapor that deposits onto a freezing surface.
