Payne County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. As of the 2020 census, its population was 81,646. Its county seat is Stillwater. The county was created in 1890 as part of Oklahoma Territory and is named for Capt. David L. Payne, a leader of the " Boomers".''Chronicles of Oklahoma''. It was once one of the longest state highways in the Oklahoma road system, but now has a total length of . U.S. Route 177 (US-177) is a spur of U.S. Route 77. It currently runs for 233 miles (375 km) from South Haven, Kansas at US-81 to Madill, Oklahoma at US-70. Interstate 35 (I-35), in the US State of Oklahoma, runs from the Red River at the Texas border to the Kansas state line near Braman for a length of . I-35 has one auxiliary route in the state, I-235, in the inner city of Oklahoma City. OSU-Stillwater Community Transit
OSU-Stillwater Community Transit, branded as The Bus, is the primary provider of mass transportation in Stillwater, Oklahoma with ten routes serving the region. It is a service of Oklahoma State University, however the buses are available to the general public. As of 2019, the system provided 497,591 rides over 39,283 annual vehicle revenue hours with 16 buses and 3 paratransit vehicles. History OSU-Stillwater Community Transit began operations in 2003 with service quickly growing. Ridership increased 187% from 2004 to 2005 and the system won the transit system of the year award from the Oklahoma Transit Association. In 2007, ground broke on the MMTT, with completion the following year. The facility has space for ten buses, an indoor waiting area, parking garage, and retail and office space.
