Pauléoula
Pauléoula (also spelled Poléoula) is a village in the far west of Ivory Coast. It is in the sub-prefecture of Taï, Taï Department, Cavally Region, Montagnes District. The village is just over three kilometres east of the Cavally River, which is the border with Liberia. Pauléoula was a commune until March 2012, when it became one of 1126 communes nationwide that were abolished. The original population of Pauléoula consisted mostly of members of the Oubi ethnic group, a small subgroup of the Krahn or Guéré people. A few kilometers east of Pauléoula, within the boundaries of the Taï National Park, lies a small research centre, the 'Institut d'Écologie Tropicale'. It was a lonely house in the forest, not far from this institute, where the Swiss scientist Christophe Boesch in the 1980s conducted his famous research on the behaviour of tool-using Chimpanzees. Taï
Taï is a town in southwestern Ivory Coast. It is a sub-prefecture of and the seat of Taï Department in Cavally Region, Montagnes District. Taï is also a commune. The town is between Taï National Park and the Cavally River. The river—which is the border with Liberia—is less than two kilometres south of the town. Previously, Taï was a sub-prefecture of the Guiglo Department; Taï Department was created on 22 March 2013. Taï is the stronghold of two indigenous ethnic groups: Oubi and Dao. The Oubi are an ethnic group belonging to the group of Krou people. They are found in the commune of Taï and in ten villages south of it, such as the villages of Gouléako 1, Gouléako 2, Paulé-Oula, Diéré-Oula, Port-Gentil, Tiolé-Oula, Sakré and Ziriglo. Christophe Boesch (11 August 1951 – 14 January 2024) was a French-Swiss primatologist who studied chimpanzees. Taï National Park
Taï National Park () is a national park in Ivory Coast that contains one of the last areas of primary rainforest in West Africa. It was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1982 due to the diversity of its flora and fauna. Five mammal species of the Taï National Park are on the Red List of Threatened Species: pygmy hippopotamus, olive colobus monkeys, leopards, chimpanzees, and Jentink's duiker. Krahn People
The Krahn are an ethnic group of Liberia and Ivory Coast. This group belongs to the Kru language family and its people are sometimes referred to as the Wee, Guéré, Sapo, or Wobe. It is likely that Western contact with the Kru language is the primary reason for the development of these different names. History The Krahn arrived in an area of Liberia previously known as the "Grain Coast" as part of early 16th-century migrations from the northeast and what is now Ivory Coast. Communes Of Ivory Coast
The communes of Ivory Coast are a fifth-level administrative unit of administration in Ivory Coast. The sub-prefectures of Ivory Coast contain villages, and in select instances more than one village is combined into a commune. There are currently 197 communes in the 510 sub-prefectures. Montagnes District ( , "Mountains") is one of fourteen administrative districts of Ivory Coast. The district is located in the western part of the country, bordering Liberia and Guinea to the west, Woroba District to the north, Sassandra-Marahoué District to the east, and Bas-Sassandra District to the south.
