Patterson Park is a public park in the town of Fort Meade, Florida. It has an area of , of which half is water. The park is at an elevation of 148 ft (45 m) and the property was once an open-pit mine. The area was landscaped after the mine was closed. This park has a number of amenities: * Observation areas that can be used for fishing. * Two floating fishing docks. * An cement-paved walkway. * A restroom and concession facility with nearby parking. * Two gazebos with picnic tables. * A beach volleyball area. * Three bodies of water, termed small lakes in two websites.Waymarking.com website. The three lakes comprise half of Patterson Park's surface area. All three are irregular rectangles, having originally been mine pits. Fort Meade is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. , the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau is 6,203. It is part of the Lakeland– Winter Haven Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was named for George Meade, at the time an Army lieutenant serving in Florida following the Second Seminole War. Fort Meade is home to Fort Meade Middle-Senior High School, several historic buildings, and Streamsong resort. The area is popular with kayakers and canoers. Open-pit mining, also known as open-cast or open-cut mining and in larger contexts mega-mining, is a surface mining technique of extracting rock or minerals from the earth from an open-air pit, sometimes known as a borrow.
