Patrik Laine
Patrik Laine (; born 19 April 1998) is a Finnish professional ice hockey right winger for the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected second overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2016 NHL entry draft. Laine has also previously played for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Early life Laine began playing hockey at four years old and was primarily a goaltender, before permanently switching to forward as a youth at the advice of his father. At age 16, he left school to focus on hockey full-time. Playing career Tappara (2015–2016) Laine started to play hockey in Ilves at age four, but soon changed to local competitor Tappara. He made his Liiga debut at age 16 during the 2014–15 season with Tappara, logging six games and scoring one point. The following season, Laine scored 17 goals and 16 assists for a total of 33 points over a span of 46 games with the club. The 2016 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship was the 40th Ice Hockey World Junior Championship. It was hosted in Helsinki, Finland. It began on December 26, 2015, and ended with the gold medal game on January 5, 2016. Kristian Kuusela (born 19 February 1983) is a Finnish former professional ice hockey right wing. Kuusela announced his retirement on 27 April 2023 after winning the Liiga championship with Tappara. Jani Lajunen (born 16 June 1990) is a Finnish professional ice hockey forward who is currently playing with HC Sparta Praha of the Czech Hockey League (EHL). He was selected by the Nashville Predators in the 7th round (201st overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Having made his debut in SM-liiga in 2008, he made quick progress and became one of the key players with Espoo Blues. Jussi Tapola (born June 13, 1974) is a Finland, Finnish ice hockey coach. He is currently the head coach for SC Bern in the Swiss National League (ice hockey), National League. Career Tapola spent his playing days in Finnish lower leagues, mostly turning out for Ahmat Hyvinkää. From 2004 to 2009, he worked as a youth coach at HPK and was promoted to assistant of the club’s Liiga squad prior to the 2009-10 season. He then served as head coach of Finland’s junior-national teams until 2012. He joined the coaching staff of Liiga side Tappara as an assistant ahead of the 2012-13 campaign and was handed head coaching duties in 2014. The 2015–16 SM-liiga season was the 41st season of the SM-liiga, the top level of ice hockey in Finland, since the league's formation in 1975.
