Patrick Hannan (presenter)
Patrick Hannan MBE (26 September 1941 – 11 October 2009) was a Welsh political journalist, author and television and radio presenter. The son of an Irish doctor who migrated to Wales in the 1930s, he was born and raised in Aberaman, near Aberdare in South Wales. He was educated at Cowbridge Grammar School, where Anthony Hopkins was a fellow pupil; and at Aberystwyth University, where he first entered journalism writing for the college newspaper, ''The Courier''. He joined the graduate training scheme at '' Western Mail'' in the mid-1960s, becoming industrial editor, before joining BBC Wales in 1970. He became a presenter of daily regional news programme ''Wales Today''. For thirteen years he was the BBC's political correspondent in Wales, and had a weekly series on BBC Radio Wales. Peter Stead (writer)
Peter Stead (born 1943) is a Welsh writer, broadcaster and historian. Stead was born in 1943 in Barry, Wales, and attended grammar schools at Barry and Gowerton. A graduate of Swansea University, he was subsequently a visiting Fulbright scholar at Wellesley College, and at the University of North Carolina. He is Chairman of the Dylan Thomas Literary Prize, and along with the late Patrick Hannan, Stead has been a member of the Welsh team in the radio series '' Round Britain Quiz'' for several years. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Gomer Press (Welsh: ''Gwasg Gomer'') is a family printing (and formerly publishing) company based in Llandysul, west Wales. It was the largest publishing house in Wales. History The company was first established in 1892 and began as a general store and printer; it is owned by the same family to this day. Jonathan Lewis, the great grandson of the company's founder, became managing director in 1995. In September 2019, it was announced that Gomer would be closing their publishing arm to focus on printing. Its 55 employees were retained but would no longer publish new titles, of which it produced 36 in 2018. This marked the end of 66 years of publishing. Menna Richards OBE was the Controller of BBC Cymru Wales from February 2000 to February 2011. Biography Born in Maesteg, Bridgend County Borough, Wales, Richards was educated at the town's Grammar School, and later at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Well-known for her contribution to broadcasting, her career began with BBC Wales as a broadcast journalist in 1976 and later as a reporter and producer for HTV Wales in the current affairs department in 1983, including the Welsh language current affairs series, ''Y Byd ar Bedwar''. She rose to become managing director of HTV Wales in 1997, before the company was taken over by United News & Media. Richards rejoined BBC Wales as a Controller in February 2000 and retired in February 2011. It was revealed as part of the BBC's open policy in November 2009, that Richards salary per annum to August 2009 was £185,000, with total remuneration of £192,800.
