Parc Natural De L'Albufera
The Albufera Natural Park (in Valencian language, Valencian ''Parc Natural de l'Albufera'') or simply La Albufera (from the Arabic البحيرة ''al-Buḥayra'', "the lake") is a Spanish Protected area, protected natural area located in the province of Valencia, Valencian Community. It was referred to by the Romans as ''Nacarum Stagnum,'' and in some Arabic poems, it is referred to as "Mirror of the Sun". The park covers an area of 21,120 hectares, including the Albufera de València, Albufera wetlands and the coastal zone adjacent to both, and it is located approximately 10 kilometers to the south of Valencia. On July 8, 1986, the Generalitat Valenciana designated the area a natural park. On October 23, 1990, the Special Protection Plan document for the Natural Park was approved (subsequently overturned by the Supreme Court of Spain). A special protection area (SPA) is a designation under the European Union Directive on the Conservation of Wild Birds. Under the Directive, Member States of the European Union (EU) have a duty to safeguard the habitats of migratory birds and certain particularly threatened birds. Together with special areas of conservation (SACs), the SPAs form a network of protected sites across the EU, called Natura 2000. A ''dehesa'' () is a multifunctional, agrosylvopastoral system (a type of agroforestry) and cultural landscape of southern and central Spain and southern Portugal; in Portugal, it is known as a ''montado''. Its name comes from the Latin ''defensa'' (fenced), referring to land that was fenced and usually destined for pasture. Restingas () are a distinct type of coastal tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forest in eastern Brazil. They form on sandy, acidic, and nutrient-poor soils, and are characterized by medium-sized trees and shrubs adapted to the drier and nutrient-poor conditions.
