''Parapercis cylindrica'', the cylindrical sandperch, is a species of sandperch belonging to the family (biology), family Pinguipedidae. Etymology Genus ''Parapercis'' = Greek ''para'', beside, near, compared with + Greek ''perkis'', a fish, perch. Genus ''Parapercis'' fishes are closely related to perches, which belong to genus ''Perca''. Description ''Parapercis cylindrica'' can reach a length of . It shows a series of quadrangular dark brown blotches along the body. The largest blotches are joined by dark brown stripes. A narrow dark brown bar is located below middle of eye. John Ernest Randall
John Ernest "Jack" Randall (May 22, 1924 – April 26, 2020) was an American ichthyologist and a leading authority on coral reef fishes. Randall described over 800 species and authored 11 books and over 900 scientific papers and popular articles. He spent most of his career working in Hawaii. He died in April 2020 at the age of 95. Ludwig Heinrich Philipp Döderlein (3 March 1855, Bad Bergzabern – 23 April 1936, Munich) was a German zoologist. He specialized in echinoderms, particularly sea stars, sea urchins, and crinoids. He was one of the first European zoologists to have the opportunity to do research work in Japan from 1879 to 1881. Today, he is considered one of the most important pioneers of marine biological research in Japan. He was the director and curator of the Musée zoologique de la ville de Strasbourg from 1882 to 1919. He headed the Zoologische Staatssammlung München from 1923 to 1927 and was Professor of Zoology in the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Léon Louis Vaillant (; 11 November 1834 – 24 November 1914) was a French zoology, zoologist. He is most famous for his work in the areas of herpetology, malacology, and ichthyology. In 1854 he graduated from the Arras College, College d'Arras, followed by studies in medicine and zoology in Paris. In 1861, he received his medical doctorate, then continued his zoological studies with Henri Milne-Edwards (1800–1885), earning his degree in natural sciences in 1865.
