Panvel () is a city and taluka in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, India. It is highly populated due to its closeness to Mumbai. Panvel is also governed for development purpose by the body of Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Panvel Municipal Corporation is the first Municipal Corporation in Raigad and the 1st Municipal corporation of Maharashtra State. Geography Panvel is one of the cities in the district of Raigad. It is also called "the gate of Raigad" because Panvel is the first city when entering in Raigad from the west. It is also one of the most populous and developed cities in the district. Panvel is situated on the banks of the Gadhi river which flows and connects all the way to the Arabian Sea. It is also surrounded by hills on two sides. Panvel Municipal Corporation
Municipal Corporation of The City of Panvel is the governing body of the city of Panvel and 29 revenue villages including Taloje Pachnand, Kharghar, Kamothe in Raigad district. Panvel Municipal Corporation is headed by Mayor of city and governed by Commissioner. Panvel Municipal Corporation has been formed with functions to improve the infrastructure of town. In 2016 Maharashtra State cabinet decided to elevate Panvel Municipal Council to Municipal Corporation under Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. The mismanagement of the Panvel Municipal Corporation has led to illegal encroachments in many municipal areas, such as New Township Navde near NH4, Kharghar near D-Mart, and the area near Panvel bus depot. Raigad District
Raigad district (), previously Colaba fort, Colaba district, is a district in the Konkan division of Maharashtra, India. The headquarters of the district is Alibag. Other major cities in the district are Panvel, Karjat, Navi Mumbai, Khopoli, Shrivardhan and Mahad. The district was renamed to Raigad fort, Raigad after the fort that was the first capital of the former Maratha Empire, which in turn was renamed from its earlier name - Rairi. The fort is located in the interior regions of the district, in dense forests on a west-facing spur of the Western Ghats of Sahyadri Range. Navi Mumbai International Airport
Navi Mumbai International Airport is an international airport being constructed in Ulwe, Navi Mumbai, Raigad district, Maharashtra, India. When completed, it will become the second airport of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, serving alongside Mumbai's existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The development and construction of the airport is being overseen by Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited (NMIAL), which was established as a special-purpose vehicle by Adani Group, Adani Airports Holdings Limited and Mumbai's City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), the agency responsible for such projects in Maharashtra. The City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) is an Indian city planning agency and richest government authority in India which is formed and controlled by the Government of Maharashtra. Taloje Panchnand
Taloja is a census town in the Raigad district of Navi Mumbai city, in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is an extension of the Kharghar node and governed by the Panvel Municipal Corporation. The Navi Mumbai Metro Phase I originates from the Pendhar station in Taloja. CIDCO has divided Taloja into Phase I and Phase II. It has developed a mass housing project in Phase II, and development work is currently in progress. The town is connected to other parts of Navi Mumbai through Indian Railways, Navi Mumbai Metro, and NMMT buses and will eventually be served by the Navi Mumbai International Airport.
