Pannonia Film Studio (also known as MAFILM Pannónia Filmstúdió) was the largest animation studio in Hungary, based in the capital of Budapest. It was formed in 1951, becoming independent in 1957. Ferenc Rófusz
Ferenc Rófusz (born 19 August 1946) is a Hungarian animator. He is known for the 1980 Academy Award-winning animated short '' The Fly''. Biography Rófusz was born in 1946 in Budapest. His interest in animation and film making started relatively early. During his studies he took special drawing and animating courses. He started to work at the Hungarian film studio Mafilm as set designer, set painter and animator. In 1968 he joined Pannónia Filmstúdió and partnered Marcell Jankovics on the animation project ''Gusztáv'' ("Gustavus"). In 1974 he made his first animated film ''A kő'' ("The Stone"), and six years later for ''A Légy'' (" The Fly") he received the 1981 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. Hungary was a Communist country at the time, and Rófusz himself was not allowed to leave the country to attend the Oscars. István Orosz
István Orosz (born 24 October 1951) is a Hungarian painter, printmaker, graphic designer and animated film director. He is known for his mathematically inspired works, impossible objects, optical illusions, double-meaning images and anamorphoses. The geometric art of István Orosz, with forced perspectives and optical illusions, has been compared to works by M. C. Escher. Biography He was born in Kecskemét. Fehérlófia
''Son of the White Mare'' () is a 1981 Hungarian animated fantasy adventure film directed by Marcell Jankovics. The story's main character is Fehérlófia (Son of the White Mare), who has superhuman powers. It is based on the narrative poetry, under the same title, from László Arany and ancient Hunnic, Avaric and Hungarian legends, as a tribute to ancient steppe peoples. Plot Fanyüvő (Treeshaker) is born as the third son of a horse, and he gains his power by suckling the horse's milk. He listens to old tales, mostly about the Forefather and the end of his reign, caused by evil humanoid dragons freed by the three wives of the three sons of the Forefather. After the horse's death, Fanyüvő decides to search and destroy the dragons, who seized power over the world. Marcell Jankovics
Marcell Jankovics (21 October 1941 – 29 May 2021) was a Hungarian graphic artist, film director, animator and author. He is best known for the animated films ''Johnny Corncob'' (1973; the first animated feature of his native country) and '' Son of the White Mare'' (1981; cited as one of the best animated films ever made). Life and career Jankovics was born on 21 October 1941 in Budapest, Hungary. From 1955 he attended the Pannonhalma Benedictine Secondary School. He started working at Pannónia in 1960. In 1973, he wrote and directed Hungary's first ever animated feature film, ''Johnny Corncob'', based on the 1845 narrative poem ''John the Valiant'' by Sándor Petőfi. ''Hugo the Hippo'' () is a 1975 animated film produced by the Pannónia Filmstúdió of Hungary and co-produced in the United States by Brut Productions, a division of French perfume company Faberge. It was released in Hungary in 1975 and in the United States in 1976 by 20th Century Fox (as its first animated feature film distribution).
