Pan American Badminton Championships
The Pan American Badminton Championships is a tournament organized since 1977 by the Badminton Pan America (BPA) to crown the best badminton players in the Americas. The tournament was held every year from 1977 until 1980, then every two years from 1987 until 2007. It is now organized annually, except once every four years when the Pan American Games multi-sports event is held. Badminton has been part of the Pan American Games since 1995. Since then, 2007 was the only year in which both the Pan American Badminton Championships and the Pan American Games were held concurrently. Badminton Pan America
The Badminton Pan Am (BPA) organisation is the Sport governing body, governing body for the sport of badminton in the Americas and is recognized as such by the Badminton World Federation, Badminton World Federation - BWF. It was founded as a continental governing body on February 13, 1976 in the headquarters of the Mexican Olympic Committee in Mexico City. The Pan American Badminton Confederation was founded by Badminton Canada, the Jamaica Badminton Association, Federacion Mexicana de Badminton, Comision Nacional de Badminton Peru and the United States Badminton Association. BPAC was founded in Mexico City in 1976 and had nominated Victor Jaramillo of Mexico as President until an official election was scheduled to take place at the first Pan Am Championships the following year. 1993 Pan Am Badminton Championships
The 1993 Pan Am Badminton Championships () was the eighth edition of the Pan American Badminton Championships. The tournament was held from 28 June to 4 July at the Guatemala National Badminton Hall inside Coliseo Deportivo in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Nine countries competed in the championships. With the absence of Canada and the United States, Peru took the opportunity and won gold in five events. Debra O'Connor won Trinidad and Tobago's first gold medal in the Pan American championships when she defeated Maria Theresa Montero of Peru in the women's singles final. Barbados and Brazil also won their first few medals in this edition of the championships. 2005 Pan Am Badminton Championships
The 2005 Pan Am Badminton Championships was the twelfth edition of the Pan American Badminton Championships. The tournament was held from 27 March to 1 April at the Wildey Gymnasium in Bridgetown, Barbados. Seven countries competed in the championships. The Canadian mixed team won the mixed team championships after defeating the United States in the final. The team also finished first in the medal tally with five golds, five silvers and five bronzes. Hosts Barbados did not win a medal in the championships. 2004 Pan Am Badminton Championships
The 2004 Pan Am Badminton Championships () was the eleventh edition of the Pan American Badminton Championships. The tournament was held from 20 to 22 April at Club de Regatas Lima in Lima, Peru. This was the second consecutive time Peru had hosted the championships after they hosted the 2001 championships in Lima. Only the mixed team event was held. Five countries competed in the championships. Suriname made their first appearance in the mixed team championships. Canada won gold in the mixed team event, followed by Peru with the silver medal and the United States with the bronze medal. The 2001 Pan Am Badminton Championships () was the tenth edition of the Pan American Badminton Championships. The tournament was originally scheduled to start on 24 September but was later rescheduled to 22 October. The tournament was held at Club de Regatas Lima in Lima, Peru. Eight countries competed in the championships. Unlike the previous editions of the Pan American Championships, this edition of the championships were played in a Playoff format#Best-of-five playoff, best of 5 playoff format. This marked the first time the United States badminton team outperformed Canada in the medal tally, with four gold medals, two silver medals and a bronze medal.
