The Palazzo del Comune ("Palace of the Commune or Municipality") is a monumental building located in Piazza Garibaldi forming part of the civic center of Parma, region of Emilia Romagna, Italy. The building houses municipal offices. Across the Piazza Garibaldi (and the busy intersections of Stradas Mazzini, della Republica, Cavour and Luigi Carlo Farini) are a number of other prominent buildings including the Palazzi del Podesta and Palazzo del Governatore, Parma, del Governatore, and the neoclassical Church of San Pietro Apostolo. Antonio Allegri da Correggio (August 1489 – 5 March 1534), usually known as just Correggio (, also , , ), was an Italian Renaissance painter who was the foremost painter of the Parma school of the High Renaissance, who was responsible for some of the most vigorous and sensuous works of the sixteenth century. Bernardino Gatti
Bernardino Gatti (c.1495 – 22 February 1576) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance, active mainly in Parma and Cremona. He is also commonly called il Sojaro. He was born in or near Pavia or Cremona. His early apprenticeship is unclear, though he was influenced by the pre-eminent local painters: Pordenone, alongside whose works are many of Gatti's frescoes, as well as Correggio. Gatti worked for 12 years, 1560–72, in the fresco decoration of the cupola of the duomo of Parma, where he was assisted by Bartholomaeus Spranger. His major works are the large fresco in the refectory of San Pietro in Cremona from 1552, frescoes in the dome of the Santa Maria della Steccata (1560–66) in Parma, and his ''Assunta'' in the Duomo of Cremona. Ilario Spolverini
Ilario Spolverini (1657–1734), known as Spolverini, was an Italian painter. Biography Spolverini was born in Parma. The influence of Mercanti’s master Francesco Monti (il Brescianino), Francesco Monti, known as Brescianino, is evident in his choice of subjects, including the battles, knights and scenes characterised by movement. After a trip to Venice together with Brescianino, his painting displayed a new approach to colour that made it fully original. His work for various noble families in the area of Parma and Piacenza included a series of paintings celebrating the deeds of the Farnese dynasty commissioned by the family in 1714 and repeated three times for residences in Parma, Piacenza and Colorno. Spolverini painted battle scenes for the Duke. His religious artwork was placed in the Certosa and the Cathedral of Parma. Cecrope Barilli
Cecrope Barilli (; April 2, 1839 – June 23, 1911) was an Italian painter. Biography Born in Parma, as a young man he joined the forces fighting for Risorgimento, Italian independence at the Battle of Palestro. Afterwards he moved to Florence, where he was influenced by the Macchiaioli painters, then to Paris where he frequented the studio of Gustave Doré. In 1870, he returned to Italy. He frescoed the prefecture and council hall of the Municipal Palace of Parma. In 1877, he painted the curtain for the Municipal Theater of Montecarotto. In 1889, he was nominated director of the Academy of Fine Arts of Parma, and the next year was elected municipal councillor of Parma. Giovanni Chierici
Giovanni Chierici (1830–1917) was an Italian sculptor, active in Parma. He was born in Bigarello in 1830. He became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Parma. Palazzo Cusani, Parma
The Palazzo Cusani is a palace at Piazzale San Francesco #1 in the central Parma region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. History The palace was constructed around 1450 by the Cusani family. It stands in front of the church of San Francesco del Prato, Parma, San Francesco del Prato. In 1612 the marchese Galeazzo Cusani donated the building to the Comune of Parma. In 1768, it was given to the University of Parma. Ten years later, the Duke Ferdinando di Borbone housed the Duchy's mint (Zecca) in the palace. Paolo Toschi
Paolo Toschi (1788 – 30 July 1854) was an Italian draughtsman and engraver. He was born in Parma. Biography He trained in Paris under Charles Clément Bervic, and first made a reputation by a fine etching of ''Henry IV'', after Gérard. In 1837 he was appointed Professor of Engraving and Director of the Academy of Fine Arts of Parma, and shortly afterwards was commissioned to carry out the reproduction of Correggio's and Parmigianino's injured frescoes in San Giovanni Evangelista, and in the church of the Steccata in Parma, in water-color and engraving. San Vitale, Parma
San Vitale is a Baroque style, Roman Catholic church located in central Parma, region of Emilia Romagna, Italy. it stands just east of the Palazzo del Comune and Piazza Garibaldi. History A religious building at the site existed in the 9th century, dedicated to San Vitale, tradition holds it was founded by King Pepin of Italy. The present layout dates to a reconstruction that took place from 1651 to 1658 by the architect Cristoforo Rangoni, also called Ficarelli. Domenico Valmagini reinforced the dome in 1676.
