Pagewood, New South Wales
Pagewood is a suburb in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia, 8 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district. It is part of the Bayside Council. Pagewood has a mixture of residential and industrial areas. History Pagewood was originally known as "South Daceyville", before being renamed to "Pagewood" in 1929, to honour the late Alderman Fred Page, the Mayor of Botany Council in 1928. The name "Kingsford" was also considered for Pagewood, but it was rejected and later used as the new name for South Kensington. Development of Pagewood began in 1919 with an estate called Monash Gardens. The northern part of Pagewood was originally designed to be the southern part of the Daceyville garden suburb, and many park and street layouts in Pagewood remain unchanged from the original Daceyville plans. First Fleet
The First Fleet were eleven British ships which transported a group of settlers to mainland Australia, marking the beginning of the History of Australia (1788–1850), European colonisation of Australia. It consisted of two Royal Navy vessels, three Combat stores ship, storeships and six Penal transportation, convict transports under the command of Captain Arthur Phillip. Commodore (rank), Commodore Jean François de Galaup, comte de Lapérouse (; 23 August 1741 – ) was a French Navy officer and explorer. Having enlisted in the Navy at the age of 15, he had a successful career and in 1785 was appointed to lead a scientific expedition around the world. His ships stopped in Chile, Hawaii, Alaska, California, Macau, the Philippines, Korea, Russia, Japan, Samoa, Tonga, and Australia before wrecking on the reefs of Vanikoro in the Solomon Islands. Astrolabe Park is a public park in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Astrolabe Park is located south-east of Sydney CBD in the heritage suburb of Daceyville, and the park is also part of the heritage listed Botany Water Reserves. City Of Botany Bay
The City of Botany Bay was a local government area in the Eastern Suburbs region of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The area encompassed the suburbs to the north of Botany Bay, such as Botany.
