Pageton is a census-designated place (CDP) in McDowell County, West Virginia, United States. As of the 2020 census, its population was 174 (down from 187 at the 2010 census). Pageton is located on the Tug Fork Branch of the Norfolk and Western Railway, along the Pocahontas seam of rich bituminous coal. Pageton is located on State Route 161 between Thorpe and Anawalt. History Pageton was named after Louis R. Page, a colliery official. Anawalt is a town in McDowell County, West Virginia, United States. At one time it was known as Jeanette. It is named in honor of James White Anawalt, who was then manager of Union Supply Company, a subsidiary of the United States Steel Company. The population was 186 at the 2020 census. Norfolk And Western Railway
The Norfolk and Western Railway , commonly called the N&W, was a US class I railroad, formed by more than 200 railroad mergers between 1838 and 1982. It was headquartered in Roanoke, Virginia, for most of its existence. Its motto was "Precision Transportation"; it had a variety of nicknames, including "King Coal" and "British Railway of America". In 1986, N&W merged with Southern Railway to form today's Norfolk Southern Railway.
